Cigarette lighter (turns off and on when I close the trunk)
2019 Camaro Lt1 RS
I have a dash cam and since I installed it I noticed every time I close my trunk it turns off the camera and back on. I didn't think anything of it till one day my wife closed the trunk and it didn't turn off. Dash cam plugs into cigarette lighter, when I close my trunk the Camaro turns off and back on. Is this normal and by design? Part of me thinks a possible short or loose connection. Last edited by CamarOklahoma; 02-04-2025 at 03:55 PM. |

I have a power adapter plugged into that outlet. It lights a nice green LED when it is powered up. I'll pop the trunk and see what happens.
I assume yours is turning on-and-off if you pop the trunk with the engine running. UPDATE: Adapter maintained power-on status while popping trunk with engine running. The 12V socket also remains powered for a few minutes after engine is turned off (and before driver's door is opened). I popped trunk during that period and my adapter remained powered. So, your car may have a connection problem. Last edited by ctrlz; 02-06-2025 at 03:15 PM. |

Ok, I thank you for your time, I also appreciate you troubleshooting for me on your vehicle.
A new development, my voltage is steady at 15.2 volts and I have no idea why, it just started doing that few weeks ago. , today I noticed when the driver side door is opened and then upon closing the door my voltage drops from 15 volts to 14 volts for a split second. |

I would check the negative cable at the battery and the load management gizmo which hangs onto that cable. I will search for a post I did years ago where I cut and pasted the info on the load management/charging system from the repair manual, which is quite sophisticated. Somebody flamed me for posting useless information, so, shouldn't be too hard to find

Ok, thank you, I looked into the thread but it doesn't help on why the door closing triggers a steep voltage drop for a split second.
Can a positive wire touching metal cause the constant high charge too ? Maybe a ground wire the same ? |

Quick update !
I went out to the car and on the driver side I pushed up slightly on the wire under the dash and as I close the door, halfway I heard a click or spark. I now notice the voltage sitting at 12.5 and not 15.2, I barley even moved the wires as they are taped heavy and very stiff I don't know what I did but would like to get any info I can from this forum. |

As stated the voltage went back to a regular 12.5 area but upon driving I hit a pot hole and the car jerked, then the voltage went back up to 14.5, so I'm not sure what is loose or not making full contact from this harness location under the driver dash
