trickle charger

Does anybody use a trickle charger over the winter months with the battery still in the car? Can you hookup under the hood or does it need to connected directly to the battery in the trunk? I'm reasonably sure most responses will be directly to the battery but is there a convenient place to run a line out then?
I have been down a few rabbit holes searching through the threads but they are typically old and end up arguing about what type of battery to put in the car, why is it in the trunk, etc.
Any tips are appreciated.

I use a Noco battery tender . Hook it up to the positive connection under the hood and the negative ground pin by the air intake . I route the cord up thru engine bay from underneath the car .driver side front corner there’s some opening to snake the cord thru

I use an old-school square Battery Tender Jr. on each of the Camaros while they sleep. Keeps the original ACDelco unit and the Die Hard AGM topped off on both. Just clip them on under the hood and no issues. Red light charging, green light float.

They're cheap enough and do the job and has been for years. I won't get the box unit they make anymore because every one of them has died prematurely. The Jrs. are definitely more robust.

NOCO Genius has something very similar in about the same price range, and it looks very promising too. Just haven't had the need to buy one since the Jrs. are still going.

I also have a CTEK automatic trickle charger that works pretty awesome too for a car I have out in the shop. But it was much pricier.

Yep, I had a ctek aswell but after about 4yrs it finally failed . It was failing to register when the battery was full and to kick on to maintenance mode .

Would have bought another ctek just didn’t want to wait for it to be shipped to me . Noco genius seems to doing the trick so far

Agree- the cost is pricier

Most all of them do a myriad of battery types nowadays. But yeah, I've got the 7002 CTEK out in the shop and I love it. Just that if/when the Jrs. give up the ghost, only then I might spring for more CTEKs.

Tender Jr. here. Been running that for the past 8/9 years on my cars and motorcycles. I have mine directly on the battery. I back my cars in the garage, and there's a plug right by the trunk.

I’ve got one on mine don’t remember the brand off hand but since my car only seen >1000 miles per year it stays on it pretty much all the time. It’s wired direct to the battery and I just route the cord out gently under the truck lid. Never had a problem. Original battery is almost 15 years old and still fires up perfect everytime, even when off the tender, sitting for a few weeks.

Thanks for all the input. I use the juniors on the HDs and the Polaris. Was figuring on getting another one. Hooking it up under the hood does seem the most convenient but was worried about it messing with the fuse box there. Had just let it sit previously but had to replace the OEM battery this Spring. Noticed the auto window feature started acting funny. Glad the car was kind enough to give me a warning! The NOCO genius looks like it could be a contender for the job as well. Again thanks all!

I have cable for the Jr permanently installed under the hood that hides with the hood latch cable when not in use. I pop the hood, connect the cable, close the hood, and forget about it till spring or whenever the next drive will be.
