Anyone have a carbon fiber wheel?

Looking for opinions of a carbon fiber wheel on a manual zl1.

I hate the alcantera, ill clean it and put it in a box for OE sake, but driving with it is a maintenance hassle.

Also, how was the install?

Post pics too

Thanks.

I don't have any pictures but I purchased mine from wildhammer motosports. Was a really really easy install and I love the looks of mine. I believe with most you do lose the heated steering option, but I live in SoCal and hardly used it to begin with. Tons of videos on youtube on installs as well.

It's the only one I've seen that supports heated steering wheel

The install isn’t hard, there is a few videos on YouTube to give you guidance. You just need to take your time, mine is the heated version. I like the interior, but I didn’t like the steering wheel being Alcântara. Got mine from zencarbonfiber.

Do you live in Orange County? I might have seen you in RSM or MV the other day.

My swap is post #125 : https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showp...&postcount=125

My complete journey is here: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=611982

Also, I think it's crazy how much more this wheel make my driving experience better than the stock wheel I had. It's pretty darn sweet to have !

I have a CF steering wheel from Wildhammer. It does have Alcantara but it's less than the OEM wheel. I find myself placing my hands above the Alcantara most of the time. I did lose the heated function. For me, it's not a big deal.

As far as installation, it did require an air wrench to loosen the torx bolt holding the steering wheel on. That sucker is on damn tight. I don't recommend using the air wrench to tighten the bolt back on. I did and it threw the steering wheel off center. I had to have it re-centered by the dealer. Hand-tighten the bolt only.

Here is mine: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showp...ostcount=13777

Look and feel is wonderful, works just like OEM, it even retains the heated steering wheel feature.

Installation is not super difficult, takes maybe 20-30 minutes, you'll find several relevant youtube videos. One of the airbag springs got stuck in my old wheel, had to fish it out and reinstall it, plus a pick tool is very helpful with the connectors, there is so little room for manly fingers inside the airbag cavity. Other than that, smooth sailing.

I didn't use an impact either for loosening or tightening the dreaded center bolt, instead, I played it safe with a 24" breaker bar and a helper (to hold the wheel in place) to take it off, then a torque wrench to properly tighten it to spec after adding blue loctite.
