2021 camaro lt1 wheels

Hey guys so I have a 2021 LT1 we are going to do upgrades on it. Add a blower long tube headers and etc... so we are going to be around 640whp and I can't figure out what kind of tires and rims I should run so it will be good for this kindda hp. Some people say go with 20x11 and 20x10 some say rum 19 inch wheels. Any suggestions should I go 20 in h or 19 inch wheels and should I run 20x11 on the rear or 20x10?

Thank you

I’m just looking at you being in California and looking at adding long tube headers and boosting. Good luck with the changing regulations on car mods passing annual inspection.

On topic, I would think that the wheel size will depend on if you are focusing on straight line acceleration uber alles or if you are also looking at road course work. If I was doing a straight up drag car, I’d be looking at 19” rears and an appropriate drag radial and narrower front wheel tire set up.

19's will be fine. BTW, you can make 640 with the OEM blower.

How do you plan to use the car? In what weather conditions? If there is any competition involved, are there class rules that affect what wheel and tire sizes you can run? How many miles per year do you expect to put on the car, and how often are you willing to buy new tires?

The 1 thing California recently changed is that newer cars don't have to be smogged for 8 years. Don't know if that'll change but for now he's good until 2029.

And if he doesn't live in a heavy metro area, he may be in an exempt area from any smog stuff. That was my status when I lived there. Despite what you hear on TV, there are more places to live there than the Bay Area, LA and Sacramento.

19" wheels are lighter so with 19s your Camaro will be a little faster and the steering will be slightly more responsive. But neither will be that noticeable on the street.

I would suggest either 19" or 20" wheels in SS 1LE widths and offsets (10" et20 front and 11" et43 rear). Those fit without drama. You can get either Michelin Pilot Sport 4S or Continental ExtremeContact Sport tires for them, which are very grippy in dry weather down to freezing and outstanding in the rain. For 20s, go with the stock 1LE sizes of 305/30/20 and 285/30/20. For 19s, you could run 275/35/19 and 295/35/19 if you want to retain a tire diameter similar to stock, or 285/30/19 and 305/30/19 if you want them a little shorter and with a bit more responsive steering.

If you go with 20s, another option is to look for takeoff Goodyear Supercar 3 tires from SS 1LEs. These are a little cheaper. They are great track day tires, decent autocross and dry street tires, but not good in the rain or cold.

Wouldn’t those require 10” front and 11” rear wheels? I’m running Supercar 3 on my SS, but they came with the 1LE wheels that I bought off a guy who totaled his 1LE.

I don’t think the same tires would fit on my stock 9” / 10” SS wheels. Maybe the OP should just look for SC3 tires in the standard 245 / 275 widths that fit the SS wheels.

That would be best, yeah. That's what I recommended to the OP.

You could physically mount them on the SS wheels, but it wouldn't be a good idea. The OP indicated he was looking at different wheels, which is why I suggested what I did. If he already had SS wheels, then he could save a ton of money and get most of the grip by getting any of the tires I recommended in the stock SS sizes. However, I think his LT1 car comes with 20x8.5 wheels front and rear with 245/40/20 all-season tires. For his stated uses of the car, I think it would make sense to keep these for winter usage and long trips (or whatever) and just get new 10/11" wheels with much wider tires for his more "spirited" car usage goals.

Uh, you did it again (see other question about LT1 engine). He has an LT1, not an LT4.

19 or 20 doesn't affect traction - it's just looks. Since the OEM wheels are 20" I wouldn't downsize to 19", because they will look small diameter compared to what the car comes with. So, I'd go with 20" if it was me.

That said, I'll echo the SS 1LE and ZL1 wheel sizes (20x10 and 20x11) suggestions and recommend going with the ZL1 or SS 1LE factory wheels with 285/30/20 front and 305/30/20 rear Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3 tires. They are less expensive than the Michelins and give great good weather traction. There may be other tires that provide better traction in a straight line, but I don't know which ones they are. Plus, the Goodyears are physically wider than the Michelins in the same size, so they look beefier.
