ATV problem, engine/carburator experts help!!

i took out my ATV that has been sitting for a couple of months now after changing the spark plug. problem is the engine doesnt feel as strong as it used to, i cant drift or do doughnuts on sand anymore. when i push the throttle to 100% the thing slows down rather then speed up.. plus when i filled it up with gas it leaked out of the carburator for a while but then stopped for no apparent reason.

Best thing to do is pull off the carb, take out the low and high speed needles and spray them and the carb liberally with carb cleaner. maybe even soak all the parts in carb cleaner. You will be amazed at all the sediment that comes out of the float bowl.

Use a strand from a wire brush to clean out any small orifices you can find in the carburetor.

Make sure all the small openings and passages are clear, check all lines/pipes coming in and out of carb for blockage, check to see if jets/needles are blocked.

sounds more like a spark issue than a air/fuel problem...

well I know all this new gas with ethanol reeks havoc with small engines with carbs, ours did the same thing afeter letting it sit for a few months, as every one has said we took the carb off soaked in carb cleaner, got new gasket changed spark plug and some fuel line worked fine after. Don't know what else to tell you to do if that doesn't work.

Maybe your clutch cable is a bit streched too... letting it slip....

very little idea of what happened but its working now . i think cleaning the carburator did it along with pumping up the tires to full. pumped them up after getting a flat then driving it down a closed highway i noticed its working properly again thanks for the help

carb cleaner go to any auto shop should be the same stuff, You know carb cleaner stuff you spray in the older cars with Carbs lol.

Mine does something like that, but after it warms up it dies, when I start it I have to have the choke out then as it warms up you put the choke in, but it will only go half way or it will die.

Trying to sell my daughters old one that way I can take mine in the shop. lol.
