Possible Ignition Switch Failure?

Hi camaro5,

So, starting like Monday night I believe, my car continues running after I drive, put it into park (6 speed auto), and turn the key off and remove it. I’ll put it back in, all my electronics switch on electrically as normal but without the engine crank since it is still running. But it’s still running. Eventually after turning the key off and on and off again a few times it eventually shuts down.

It seems fine in the morning but yesterday the engine was slow to crank. Today it didn’t crank at all, and told me battery saver active.

Right now I’m recharging my battery on a charger as we speak. I don’t know much but this seems like a failed ignition switch that needs replacing to me? What is involved in taking out the old one and replacing it? I have the part number but don’t want to pull the trigger just yet.

Also, my check engine light stays on even when the car is off, leading to the drain I suspect.

Thanks!

I did it due to getting plastic spray straw stuck in it in 2015, its not too bad of a job.
You have to have the key in the run position to get it out.

I won’t need to replace my cylinder right? I’m just wanting to change out the old switch for the new one i purchased.

no, the ignition switch is separate from the key cylinder
