Prices paid for new SS1LE? Prices are going to drop?

I'm looking at used SS 1LE's at the moment, manual transmission is a must for a weekend/fun/track car.

I've found a few priced in the mid 30s with miles ranging from a couple thousand to 12-15,000. Even found a GM pace car (several of them actually) for sale with 7,000 miles on it. Given that it was probably meticulously maintained that may not be a bad option but feel that its over priced as it sits now. I'm targeting a used SS 1LE for purchase at 30-32k.

Friend of mine sent me links to a couple new ones last night, one for $36,800 and several for 38-39k. This is mid-year and I suspect that discounts on new will steepen as we get into June/July/August? If it's possible to pickup a new one for 35k that would seem like the obvious way to go? Is this realistic as the model year nears end and the refresh right around the corner?

I also know a VP at a local Chevy dealer, I HATE to pull that string but might if nothing turns up over the next 3 or 4 months.

Any help C6 can provide would be greatly appreciated.

The old "I know the manager/VP/owner" thing doesn't work. They are out to make money and they can make more off of friends and relatives because tend to be loyal. You can most likely get a better price just by shopping around online using sites like autotrader and watching the prices daily. New rebates and dealer cash come every month and sometimes mid month.

I bought my new 1SS 1LE with PDR in mid March for $39,500 (9 miles).

Just a stick to measure against when you are pricing out used ones.

Excellent data point

Buying new is almost always a giant waste of money. You're going to take a HUGE hit. I've only bought 2 brand new cars in my life (both for my wife) and that was only b/c the deals worked out so well that I got them for the price of a 1 or 2 year old vehicle. I had to drive a few hours each direction for both deals. And one was during the "cash for clunkers" era that jacked up used car prices at the time. I spend a TON of time online researching and watching prices when buying a car, but I enjoy that type of stuff.
I agree, I typically buy one or two year old cars. When I bought my BMW I bought it with 5,500 miles on it for 10,500 less than original MSRP, so probably 5 grand less than I could have purchased new and I got better warranty thanks to their good CPO program at the time.

Wife's Lexus? Two years old with 22,000 miles and 16,000 less than original MSRP, so probably saved 11 or 12k on that deal and again...excellent warranty.

I'm still leaning used but if I could find a new one for 35ish, that might be a deal worth doing.

there is a white one on ebay right now for $33k with 2,700 miles. looks to be on second owner. They seem to go anywhere from $33k-36k with low miles from what I have seen and lowest new price I have heard is about 38-39k

Don't think you will find one new in the $35k range. I paid $35 & change for my 15 in Nov. 2015. That included th GM 20% deal + the dealer discount. I havent seen GM listing anything close to the 20% on Camaros lately.

With the 2019 refresh coming soon, im sure you can find 18s later on in the year for a hefty discount.

I looked at those and am not afraid to travel. It's only a couple hundred bucks to get down there and could drive it back in two days for a couple hundred bucks in gas.

Ultimately want to score one for 35k and that makes new attractive.

$35k new probably isn't gonna happen. That's about $5k under what most dealers sell them for. I got my 17 1SS 1LE w/ PDR lightly used with 800 miles for $36k. I also shopped new and that was coming in around $39k.

Good prices, but it looks like they will also tack on at least $1,300 in "dealer fees".

Gotta hope for some EOY discounts in the summer or I'll just buy used.

Sounds like a good plan. If you get one new for $35k, that will probably be a record low from what has been posted on this forum.

I'd be hesitant to buy any SS used unless it's dirt cheap and I don't plan to keep it long term. The potential for abuse (especially with the manual tranny) is too high. I see it as just buying someone else's headaches. Yeah, you can have the warranty, but also the hassle of having to take it for potential future issues (in and out of warranty).

If you plan to keep it long term and plan to spend over 30k, just wait for a good deal and buy new. IMO, having the peace of mind of being the only owner far outweighs any depreciation hit.

I'd also be weary of cheap low mileage cars. If you're going to take that chance, go over it with a fine tooth comb...top, bottom, outside, inside and sideways.
