Well written article. He's absolutely right that a few years ago GM would have just been satisfied with its success and called it a day. This is certainly different. I should hope that for the 2010 model year the 6 speed is standard across the board, period.

One place GM has been behind is for its vehicles like the cobalt, malibu, impala, aveo, the automatics have always been 4 speeds. I really hope they spread the love with this 6 speed.
GO GM!!!!!! Keep it Up!!!!!! |

They are putting the six speed in the 09 Avalanche, Tahoe and Suburban so it looks like 6 speeds for everyone!

I think they are closing down their 4 speed automatic plant. They are getting replaced by this 6 speed. I think

Nice...too bad it will be at least ten years before my pickup will have the six speed auto. Stupid lack of money...

on top of the 6 speed transmission, the silverado, and Tahoe LTZ will both be getting a 6.2L 403hp engine for 09...The tahoe will also get a side blind zone alert system, heated and cooled seats and Bluetooth! The Tahoe will now be available with 2 dvd player from the factory (as if one isn't enough)...2009 is going to be a good year for GM...Now if they could only change their advertising to "This is the new GM"

It's so good I plan on buying an LTZ V6 next year. My only quibble with the current Malibu is the lack of rear armrest, otherwise awesome vehicle.
