Question Will the V8 engine die out

The title say it all.

In Europe we have rumors that the V8 engine will die out by 2019. As from there we will get only the V6 from the ATS-V or a smaller V8. Can somebody confirm this or is it just a rumor.

They can't stop America's (or mine) infatuation with V8 engines... of course, I said the same thing about blockbuster video, so...

i believe that will happen,if not by 2019 then sometime in the future.however it will not be the end of the world.the newer engines are producing more hp/liter than we would have dreamed of years ago.turbocharging is becoming more common, and cars keep getting faster even as engines shrink and fuel economy goes up.the mighty 217 c.i. engine in my 2015 RS puts out as much horsepower as the hotter smallblocks did in the 60s,and the torque shortage can be overcome by transmissions with more gears and less RPM drop between shifts.this is a great time to be a gearhead, just as the 60s were.im seeing a lighter, twin turboed 6 cylinder as the SS engine of the future as was done in fords GT-40.

Used cars will persist for some time after all new cars move to electric and high power hybrids using smaller ice engines.

So for those who think cylinder count is more important than actual power, they will still be able to drive v8's probably for the rest of their lives. Just not in new cars come roughly 2020

yes, the v8 will die out. they are already playing with multi speed transmissions in formula E. imagine a multi speed electric sports car.

A 3400 lb. coupe that gets 30 mpg and does 0-60 in 4 seconds will continue to sell as long as gas is below $5 a gallon and doesnot have a gas guzzler tax for a long time. Try 2030 as a drop off point for the V8.

I find it highly unlikely that V8's will die out, atleast until gas becomes entirely unavailable or impossible to afford as the supply dwindles. However that wont happen until long after we are all dead.

Bear in mind modern V8's are becoming more and more efficient, our cars can get 30-35 mpg on the highway while cruising. These V8's are no longer the old school 8mpg beasts of the 1970's.

Don't worry about it and LET THEM BALD EAGLES FLY!

If you believe in the man made global warming hysteria AND love your V-8, V-6 or V-4 Camaro, you are at serious odds with yourself. The sky is falling greenies and their sheep are at war (political and economic) with petroleum and the internal combustion engine. I know and you know that an electric car or hybrid is not green. But they will tell their sheep that.

If we keep voting our freedom away and allowing thugs to control thought and policy, the V-8 and most IC engines will be banned. And Not for proven economic or scientific/environmental reasons.

If there were online forums in the mid 70's, I am sure they would have had this same topic. Turbos became more popular during the gas crises and of course for environmental reasons. Slapping a turbo on a 4 cylinder or a V6 made more power and had better fuel economy than a V8 just like now. But the V8 never went away and came back with more power and better mileage. My V8 now makes 3 times the power as the V8 I had in my 86 Regal with the same mileage.
I do see that Ford has the twin turbo V6 making lots of power and better mileage than their V8 but I think it will be a long time before the V8 goes away for good.

It's not just the count of the cylinders it's the sound a V8 muscle car makes that I enjoy and like, even if the fancy V6 have more HP. They sound like a European fart can in the wind.
