How long did you guys wait before voiding your powertrain warranty?

Hello,

I am seriously considering doing headers/high flow cats on my SS, but I literally just bought the car 3 months ago...I am a bit worried about voiding the warranty in case something DOES happen to the car.

At this point the car is driving absolutely perfect, but I'm still nervous

Just curious, for the others who have done this, how long did you wait before voiding your warranty?

Thank you

EDIT:
On an unrelated note, has anyone bought this package?

It all depends on the dealer and your relationship with them. My dealer has done some major repairs on my old gen 5 and it had exhaust. I modded early on, but didn't go to any extremes and my dealer knows everything that is done to the car.

If you can't afford the worst case scenario, think carefully before voiding that warranty.

19k miles. At 32 now with no problems with internal mods, but I did buy Geico mechanical breakdown insurance.

If your doing something to void your warranty, divulging it is not a swell idea.

Like less than three months, already did headers and tune. In August (less than 9 months), will be doing cam with Vengeance.

1600 miles lol...

but I work at the dealer, and my adviser I work with said I'm good for any warranty repairs except blown motor or busted trans, he couldn't make any promises there.

I have 2000 miles and already ordered ARH long system put a E85 kit on it and bought the GM 1le suspension. going on vacation Aug 24th so will be doing the install then. On my 2012 SS i did headers cam and suspension 3.91 gears at 4500miles.

At 850 miles I had a lifter collapse and broke a rocker arm. The top end had to be taken apart I am sure if I was paying it would be $3500.00 repair at dealer rates. Stuff happens and after reading this forum it happens a lot to these cars. I find it hard to believe people just throw the warranty out the window. Think before you do.......

I agree with this statement, however, my specific dealer would still help me since the AFM lifters have had issues from time to time. Because it is a known issue, although rare, the people I work with will fix it under warranty even with my mods. However, if I ran lean and chipped a piston, they may not consider covering my warranty because the cause would most likely be the tune/mods.

I recently had my transmission fluid replaced due to vibration going up hills under light load. No questions asked because it is a known issue for the 16's and earlier A8's and some A6's. They will replace the converter if this doesn't fix things.

But to again agree with you: if you modify, you are taking a chance that a major engine or drivetrain failure will not be covered. My dealership just chooses to work with me since we lease 3 cars from them every 2-3 years and service them there.

If you want to Play you have to be prepared to pay if something breaks. If you can live with that and have no problem paying $$$ if something does happen mod away. Headers, cats, tune say so long to your powertrain warranty, hell a tune alone you can kiss it good bye for that matter.

maybe I come from another world but when I buy a Camaro the warranty is the least of my problems. If it is that much of a concern then buy a Honda. GM knows most people will mod the Camaro. Shit most of the money made from Camaro's are aftermarket parts.

Mod it and don't even look back
