Car Guys and Gals Movies

I apologize if this has been done. Throw out your favorite Car Guys and Gals Movies.

No Particular Order:

Bullitt - IMHO The very best car chase scene in movies

French Connection
Vanishing Point
Gumball Rally
Ronin

That should maybe get the thread started.

I have a bit different style I guess. Anytime car movies come up I have a default top no matter what.
American Graffiti

I can watch that movie with the sound off. It's just great.

Some others I truly enjoy:
Cannonball run
Speed Zone
The Italian Job

American Graffiti does capture that part of the 60s and the car culture as well as any movie.

Im also into the racing Genre. But theres so many good car movies. On youtube you can find some gems from the 70s and 80s that are real good.
Brewster Baker and the Six Pack
Days of Thunder
Hot Rod (Rebel of the Road)
Drag Racer (1971 Film, corny acting but real cool if you like late 60s So-Cal Top Fuel Racing)
On Any Sunday
Smokey and the Bandit
Convoy

Just to name a few. Theres plenty, but dont need to post a list 3 pages long. lol

I am not positive but I think the first Cannonball Run was actually not sanctioned. Later, there was another Cannonball Run that was sanctioned by the Cannonball Baker Sea to Shining Sea group (Brock Yates?).

Maybe the coolest part of this was the fact that this was truly a race. It was a different time and traffic was different, but Dan Gurney and Brock Yates did roll out of the Red Ball Garage and drive a Ferrari Daytona to California in less than 36 hours.

Now, see, in some ways, maybe... I have enjoyed most installments of the franchise thus far. However, I went to see "Fate of the Furious" the other day, and spent much of the movie thinking about the irony of how these movies are aimed at the "car guys and girls" demographic, but they are so ridiculously NOT even believable to anybody who is the slightest bit "car guys and girls."

In the first five minutes of the film, Dom mentions car parts that don't even exist, he announces that it makes NO difference what's under the hood, only who's behind the wheel (anybody care to argue V6 vs. V8?), he creates a "poor man's turbo" in under ten seconds out of a beverage pull tab (it works by simply spraying gasoline all over the red- hot engine, which apparently makes a car go real fast... or something), and he wins a race against a MONSTER hot rod, while he drives in REVERSE ('cause, those reverse gears are real tall, I guess), in a complete POS that is completely engulfed in flames (sorry for the spoiler, there, those who haven't seen it, but, well, he does win). I cannot even remember all of the automotive technical fouls in the first five minutes alone, let alone the rest of the movie.

And, then there's the driving stuff: At 80 MPH, I don't care what you are driving, if you are on an icy lake and simply drop the accelerator pedal, you will NOT pull a glorious wheelie; and if you launch your car off of a 100- foot cliff, the landing will be more significant than a little bounce of the shock absorbers, as you continue driving. Now, if you know nothing at all about cars and driving and physics and vehicle dynamics, it might look amazing... but if you have even a tiny bit of an idea what REALLY happens, you'll just roll your eyes.

I know... these movies are not supposed to be "realistic." However, the Transformers movies are far more realistic than this last installment of the Furious franchise... and, being movies aimed at car guys and girls, I want to expect at least a faint hint of actual car knowledge by the producers of the film. I want to see that the movie was created by car people. However, I felt like the movie was created by millenial snowflakes, with no more knowledge of cars than I have of the Kardashian family.
