Freaking Grammar Police

This is something that I can't stand on forums. Individuals always policing grammar! I thought the purpose of these forums were for individuals that share a common interest, find fellowship and camaraderie. Once you are in this fraternity we help each other through sharing knowledge, paying things forward, or just being a friend. I had an individual on here correct my grammar in a very condescending way. That was funny to me as I have worked in upper management for almost 20 years and communications has been the hallmark of my success. So when I come on this site with all of my brothers and sisters - my family, I feel like this is one of the few places where I can be less formal.

Grammar Police lighten up and relax! Keep mind that many people are using smart phones just trying to quickly get their post in while in between work, family time etc...

Let's have fun on this forum! Stop being a douche and you might learn something or make a few friends!!

I hear what you're saying, but between forums, other social media sites, and the downfall of education in general, the English language will be as dead at Latin in about 100 years.

I couldn't agree with you more. If someone wants to come across looking stupid, ignorant and like they haven't went past the third grade, that's thier business! No one has the right to correct them!

Punctuation, capitalization and grammar is stupid. There is absolutely no reason to use that nonsense! Why on earth would you want to make it easy in the reader to get your point across? Make those douchbags read your sentences and paragraphs (screw the paragraphs) three or four or even nine times to figure out what the hell you're trying convey.

Grammar police take note. This is your final warning.

Grammar police will always be there, because poor grammar isn't a good thing.

I agree 100%. I believe there is a time and place for correction. I'm not sure this is a good place to get that point across. I correct my children and maybe some of my direct reports when proof reading their reports. I'm not arrogant enough to correct an individual on here.

Cute... but I'm sure there is some incorrect grammar in your 13 post. FYI... I'm just joking here. Your reply was actually funny!

My two cents...

I don't claim to be 100% perfect with grammar, but I do try to keep it as close to perfect as possible in almost every circumstance, including texting. As with all skills, becoming complacent or taking shortcuts leads to degradation. It's also easier to get your point across.

I try my best to use good grammar as well. But sometimes people leave words out or maybe rush to get their point across quickly while using a smart phone. If I understand what they are trying to say, I won't condemn them.

Grammar should be something to be proud of. If you do not care about impressions by having poor grammar, you shouldn't care about what people think of you.

I know plenty of people in 'upper management" with big bad degrees that cannot spell or form a proper sentence for the life of them. This does not mean you are a literary genius or the king/queen of grammar.

It's not arrogance when people correct you, whether it be on social media or a car forum. It is public domain and people can do what they want unless it involves harassment, insults, personal attacks, etc. Have some thick skin and either ignore the people you don't like or get used to it.

With as bad as the English language is diminishing, you should take pride in forming complete and proper sentences, enunciating words correctly and being able to spell correctly. It's also a form of discipline and shouldn't be brushed off because one simply does not care about spelling/grammar, etc.

I'm thinking that those who feel a need to correct everyone's grammar and spelling on forums suffer from a horrendous lack of reading comprehension. Unless of course, it's an English 101 forum, lol.

So, what you are basically saying is that you're OK with your kids, Grand kids, etc... growing up using the wrong pronunciation of words? using the improper use of a word in a sentence? I only assume the ones making the corrections are only making an attempt at making society correct.... I mean, why the hell do people go to school anymore? once they're out, seem like they don't care about anything anymore...
