FORD Mustang wins Grand-Am Koni Challenge and SPEED World challenge title

Next season should be really interesting.

With various racing series coming to a close this month, the Mustang has proven its worth on track by bringing home two major road racing championships. This past weekend Brandon Davis secured the 2009 SCCA SPEED World Challenge GT title in only his second season with a fourth place finish at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Davis, who was racing in the new 2010 ACS Mustang that debuted a few weeks earlier at Road Atlanta, only needed to finish in eighth place to guarantee the championship and beat out Porsche driver James Sofronas.

In the Grand-Am Koni Challenge series, the Mustang FR500C also captured not only the driver title, but also the team and manufacturers' championships for the second straight year. Rehagen Racing sat atop the driver and team points lead with a sixth place finish at Virginia International Raceway, and the win by JBS Motorsports helped put Ford just one point ahead of BMW in the manufacturers' standings. Mustangs won five races during the 2009 season and finished on the podium eight out of eleven races.

Whatever man. There are lot's of people on here who follow the Koni series.

You are probably the first person in all my years of forums that I will put on ignore. Have fun posting altho I won't be able to see it.

Crowley I see what your saying and I respect your opinion. Now If I wanted to I could say the same thing to you about my post..... but Im not like that.

You are right this is the General automotive forum.... which makes it easy to walk the line between trolling and posting good info. Why not post info about the whole Koni race and series.....not just the Ford Mustang?

If I'm not mistaken the last race of the season at VIR was the new Camaro's Koni GS Series debut, in classic Sunoco colors no less. Fastest lap for the new Camaro wasn't bad, but the team only managed a 43rd place showing...not sure what happened. On the happy side for GM enthusiasts Camaro is allowed to run a full power LS3 with no restrictor plate, which should work in their favor since Camaro possesses the largest displacement engine in the series.

Ironically, in the 'who did Dodge piss off' section of the news Dodge's Challenger, which weighs more than Camaro and uses a slightly smaller displacement motor, is power restricted through the mandatory use of a restrictor plate. While I'm no Mopar fan, to be fair they probably need to go a bit easier on the Pentastar boys here.

With the Coyote powered GT coming for 2011 and the Camaro running it's first full season next year this could be the closest things to the classic Trans Am series of the 60's and early 70's that we have seen since that era.

I don't follow racing so please excuse the ignorance, but are these completely stock cars or are they modified?

They are modified, but they are very heavily production based and unlike other series the trend is that these vehicles more closely adhere to production specs as time goes on.
