The most interesting thing I read in that article was that the Challenger will be dropping 500lbs. That's a big deal if they execute is properly.

Next generation yes, it's getting an Alfa Romeo platform and TT V6 according to my buddy into MOPARS. Rumor is the Hemi will be going away in many cases as Fiat wants to improve CAFE.

Not really. That would basically put it in line with where the Camaro is. Merely becoming competitive should never be a big deal. It should be expected.

It's a big deal because it will help to make them be competitors again. Everyone certainly made a big deal out of the Camaro loosing weight to get down where the Mustang is. Besides the nine year old design of The Challenger is doing just fine holding up to the Camaro. Just about as many people want a Challenger still as the latest and greatest from GM. 500lb drop in weight is a big deal no matter how you try to brush it off.

Well, there is the failure in execution then. They will have to have some for V8 option or that car will fail. The Hemi name what brought them back into the game.

Remember these comercials.

As I said ... becoming competitive shouldn't be a big deal. It should be expected. I'm not impressed by the expected. And yes, people made a big deal about the Camaro losing weight. I recall saying something along the lines of 'thats nice, but its still not going to be light' or words to that effect. And when the Mustang gained weight, that put it within about 100 lbs of the Camaro. So they were already weight competitive (and performance competitive too). Today, the Camaro is still within about 100 lbs of the Mustang ... its just that its the lighter car now. But either way, it doesn't particularly matter because its only about 100 lbs. Thats a pretty small deal to me.

As for sales ... there are a lot of people who buy the Challenger because its a lot bigger than either the Mustang or the Camaro. The Giulia is a fair bit smaller (I think more than a foot shorter in overall length). Combine that with the claim that the Charger (which is currently the same approximate size of the Challenger, yet nearly 100 lbs heavier) and I'm thinking the Charger is going to get the 'regular' sized version of the platform & the Challenger gets a short wheelbase variant (as a proper coupe should). But what that would mean is losing the roominess selling point it currently enjoys.

Of course, all this very much in the realm of reading tea leaves to predict the future. But that doesn't stop it from being a fun mental exercise.

I know the Camaro 1LE is the more athletic car but that Challenger T/A 392 looks so damn good though.

Incorrect...current contracts have production on the Hellcat Hemi past 2020.

You might see the 5.7 go away since the 6.4 does everything it does, better, with less fuel and at roughly the same cost.

The Hellcat won't be getting AWD, just a wide body.
