Spied: Chevrolet Corvette C7 ZR1?
New Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 prototype spied during testing
Autoblog August 2, 2016 Chevrolet Corvette enthusiasts are pining for the revival of the ZR1, and these spy shots indicate a new one is one the way. Through the camouflage we can make out details that make us think this is a ZR1. The front of the car is fitted with a loose covering that hide a bulging hood and large air intakes at the corners of the bumpers. Moving around to the side, we can see that the doors are bare and unpainted. This may indicate a move from fiberglass to carbon fiber. Even the Z06 still uses a fair amount of fiberglass, so a move to carbon would help reduce weight. Another notable detail is the blue brake calipers that can just be made out through the black wheels, which may be a nod to the C6 ZR1's blue calipers.

If this is a ZR1 test car it looks like its not going to be the Mid-Engine everyone is thinking it would be.

The ZR1 is supposed to 'close' the C7 generation. The mid engine corvette is supposed to be a completely different generation.

I thought the front-mid engine/rear drive layout couldn't handle more than 650 hp ...

Randy Probst said the C7 Z06 couldn't even use the power it had. He had a hell of a time keeping it on line when he did the H2H hot laps against the Viper ACR. Kinda makes you wonder if they have some new computer magic or are just chasing HP numbers.

I wonder if this is the car we saw a few weeks back, that everyone thought was the mid engine prototype. This could just be the updated Z06, with the new hood for cooling. Like DG said, many people have said the C7 can't handle more than 650 hp, so adding more seems like a mistake.
The Camaro behind it is a ZL1.

If you look on the back of the trunk hatch, it looks like mounting points for a big spoiler, similar to the Z/28.
Very interesting...

ZR1
There is a new ZR1 Corvette being tested. Any ideas about what engine it may have and whether it will also end up in a Camaro i.e. Z/28?

If it is the ZR1, would not likely be the choice for Z/28 since the ZR1 will likely be a big power FI engine. Maybe the rumored LT5 and could be a turbo V8.

My guess:
Just the updated/better cooled Z06. The ZL1 has been brought along b/c it probably cools better than the current Z06 and they wanted a direct comparison to make sure the new cooling is up to snuff.
