Canceled my order.... and couldn't be happier!

Before I say anything else in this thread, I want to say I am in NO way knocking the Camaro, or those who bought one, just more perspective for all those waiting or on the fence!

So, I was like you (as many will recall), DYING to have my new Camaro sitting in the driveway. I would have done ANYTHING to have the 2SS. But thanks to my dealer, who kept promising dates that came and went, I was able to get tired enough where I decided to walk away from the car, and it felt like a burden was released. I think after so long, the idea of having a nice new car was over riding everything else, especially the idea of having to PAY for a nice, new car.

Now, I don't know your living/financial situation, but I can run you down on mine. I'm 24, wife, 2 boys, and a house to pay for. I work alot, much more than most, but when you want all the toys, its what you gotta do. I could afford the 2SS, and planned everything around it. My wife didn't even gripe or complain, she knew how much I wanted it and felt with the hours I worked I deserved it.

So after months and months of playing the waiting game, I finally started seeing the light. And you know what the two biggest lessons I learned? As much as they want you to think, this ISN'T going to gain value, and there will be MANY of them made, bought, and traded in. You can worry about big payments on a 2SS or "settling" on a 2LT..... or you can wait a year to two years, and that 36k "investment" will be all day long in the 20's, and anyone who tells you otherwise is just plain wrong. You know soon the 11' model will be out, then the convertible, and then the Z28. And each and every time, that car loses a little more value, people will be trading them in for the newest thing.

Myself, the idea of saving 10-15k is too much to pass up. I have already used the money I would have spent to open my family room, new hardwood floors, crown moldings, baseboard, and an ENTIRE new home theater for the family room. Oh, and the tv (UN55B8000) was 4k not to long ago.... can be picked up 2.7 all day long. Things deprechiate, its a fact of life.

I guess my message to those who are really trying to pull numbers where they dont have them, or worried about how they can get the car, don't be. Remember, even though it is awesome to impress family, friend's, other people driving, its you and you alone that has that nice big payment at the end of the month, not them. I hope this helps all of the "can I afford?" threads, and lets people realize waiting isnt a bad thing.

Nothing wrong with that. Let someone else take the depriciation. If you have the patience, you'll be good in the long run.

WOW, 24 and already a house, wife and 2 kids?? That is more rare today, and a lot of responsibility for a young guy. It is all about priorities. Wait another 20 years and you will have all those other things and a Camaro and maybe something else cool in the garage.................you gotta have the toys!

Your situation is unfortunate, but you seem to have your priorities in order, and even at a young age, you're able to put your family first

I truly believe you came across a poor dealership, who just kept promising you certain delivery dates (don't know when you ordered and how long you've been waiting), just to keep you as a customer in THEIR best interest, and not yours.

Hope your day of owning THE BEST MUSCLE CAR ever to be resurrected from the past, will be in the near future, keep the faith.

I see your point and is well taken. On the otherhand, loading the wife and kids in the the new camaro and snapping their necks around, priceless.

Great perspective from someone in the younger generation, luckily for me I was able to pay cash for mine after saving for almost 4 years, trust me the ride seems a little sweeter, the exhaust a little deeper and the seats feel alot more comfortable since I know it's paid for. You have a good head on your shoulders. Your day will come, the worst thing is to buy this car and then find out you can't afford it because you will get taken when you try to get rid of it.

Very good, nice to see someone in this day and age use their head. It's a good lesson for all who buys before they really think.

Hey all, thank you for taking my message so positive. I won't lie, I get a slight tinge when a Camaro passes, and still think it is one hot car, but just not the right time for me, and I am happy about it. I should post some pictures of all the housework we have gotten done, its really amazing. I will still be reading the site, and congrats to all those who have one!
