91 Octane in 93 Octane tune

Currently live in Pa where we have 93 octane. My Camaro has a LS3 conversion tuned for 93 octane. I may be moving to Northern Maine next year where they only have 91 octane and plan to take the Camaro with me. Should I leave the 93 tune and use an additive or get it tuned for 91? Also does the car need to have 91 octane fuel in it to be tuned to run with it? Thanks

Get it tuned on 91 imo. Might lose 5-10hp, but you don't want to risk having detonation.

get it tuned for 91. Yes it needs to have all 91 in it to be tuned. put 3 tanks of 91 through it befor the tune to make sure. just dont be getting on it with the 91 and you will be fine.

I'd have a a degree or 2 pulled out under wot areas at the minimum but really it depends how aggressive it is to begin with.

what's the elevation difference between where it was tuned & where you're moving?
the rule of thumb for octane is 1 point per 2500', so 93 at sea level essentially runs about the same as 91 at 5000'. that said, you should still be able to drive it fine, but it's much safer & will be more efficient to retune it.

I moved from 93 to 91 and my car knocked like a mother. Just listen after a couple fill ups. If you dont hear anything, youre prolly safe. But Id bet money youll need to retune.

Retune with 91 in the area you live with a good tuner who knows what he is doing.

The altitude of Maine isn't too much different than here in Pa. My tune is fairly aggressive so I'll get it tuned for 91 before I would move. I'll just have to find a station around here that has 91 instead of 93. I think Sunoco carries it. I might talk to Ted Jannetty about a tune since we travel thru Waterbury on our way to Maine.
Thanks for all the replies!

if you can't find 91 there, technically, you can take your gas tank capacity & add half of that in 89 then fill the rest with 93... but it's way easier to just look up a station that carries 91.
