Hackers wirelessly cut a Corvette’s brakes with a simple plug and a text message

General Motors gets to join Fiat Chrysler and Tesla in an unenviable lineup this week: Using cheap gadgets and text messages, researchers have proven they can hack that most traditional of cars, the Chevy Corvette. And worse still is that this line of attack will work on basically any car with a computer in it, which is to say… all of them.

Thoughts on this? Tesla's and corvettes are being hacked into easily. Any car with a computer can be hacked into including our 5th Gen Camaro's. You could be driving along the freeway going 80mph and someone could hack in and ether cut the breaks, or even worse full acceleration and you wouldn't be able to do anything.

If it's stick couldn't you put it into neutral and pray that the emergency brake can haul you down to a stop?

Also how did hey cut the brakes if they're hydraulic? Don't see how this can stop the brakes, abs I can see being stopped for sure though.

read the article completely... they hacked into a device called Metromile that insurance companies plug into the vehicle. I'm guessing it plugs into the OBD port. so not the same thing.

If its throttle, clutch he car and let the engine scream. I have trouble believing that they can stop hydraulic pressure, but I imagine that is what anti-locks do, so it could happen.

Here's another article with a video showing a 'hacker' applying the brakes ..

Yep, and that's why you don't plug those insurance devices into your car.

If you read the article, it says that a device was plugged into the OBD2 port. (This device is what some insurance co. use to monitor your driving). I may be wrong, but without this device, I don't think they would be able to hack in.

Seriously though I can hack a cars brakes by cutting the lines with a hack saw, and do it without the use of wires, wirelessly.

I'm not worried about it. If anything in the car shuts off i'm using my E brakes and throwing that stick into neutral.
