Complaints

Ok, I gotta vent. Today I just saw two hot chicks in a new SS camaro that had "Happy 16th Birthday" in shoe polish on it. Don't get me wrong - there can be nothing more hot than two great looking girls in the finest musclecar ever made, but it just makes me mad. I mean, look, I've been dreaming and saving for a camaro all my life and know the cars specs inside and out. I could build the engine in my sleep and yet I have never owned a single camaro and am no where near being able to afford one. Just makes me angry that I have so much care and devotion for the machine and some jerk goes out and buys a new SS for his little girl. Didn't even get her the L99 he gave a 16 year old an SS!!! Aaaaaagh!! I'm going to loose it! I have to have one of these cars!

Yup, it's amazing. When I ordered my car at the end of April, the dealer said they had a black/black due in about three weeks. I really didn't want black, so I ordered. About 3 weeks later I stopped in to see if my event code had changed and asked if the black one came in yet. They said yeah, it came in about noon yesterday and we sold it at 2:00PM the same day.

Parents came in and bought it for their 17 year old daughter for a HS graduation present! Wow!!

I hope so. That's just ridiculous. Still - I'd date em if I were the right age group. I'm shallow enough.

There is another way to look at this, think of the DAD's that worked all THEIR lives to be able to afford a gift of that magnatude for their "Little Girl's". Just to be able to put that kind of smile on their childs face is priceless. I would just like to hope that those "little girls" truly apprieciate what was given to them.

I don't view this kind of gift as a "gift."

Its that kind of view on the way kids should be raised in this society that have given so many of my generation such a sense of entitlement that it makes me sick. My mom wanted to help me get a car, so she started paying me to do extra chores so that I could save up some money. I needed help affording my college text books so she paid me 200 dollars to spread 1/2 ton of gravel on her driveway. And the same sort of thing again when she needed new shingles on her roof.

Now, my mom may be a bit on the extreme but I was trying to prove a point. Buying your kid a 2000 dollar car for their 16th birthday is one thing, but honestly, if you think you're giving your kids ANYTHING when you buy them a 31000 dollar car for their 16th birthday, you're out of your mind.

My dad worked hard all his life too and you know what I got for my 16th birthday? A FREAKING JOB! I bought my own car (a 93 Ford Escort) after saving the money I earned. Instilling the value that if you want things in life, you have to WORK for them, was one of the greatest gifts my father ever gave me.
