Interested in a Dual Clutch System in your Camaro?

Too bad.

http://www.bimmerfile.com/2009/08/27...e-dct-is-near/

The Dual Clutch Trans is being killed off for lack of efficiency with high torque vehicles, only niche brands will retain use of the DCT. Not quite cost effective apparently.

.... Yes Ferrari... We know you build amazing trans...

I agree with you on the blast part, but

a. neither of those cars produce a large amount of torque. (400+)

b. the DCT is the most expensive tranny to build and if its only going towards a single car or two.. doesnt make complete sense

Personally i'd hang on to the DCT, but apparently they are going to be building regular auto's that shift as quick but retain the ability to handle more power.

GM isn't even going to have DCT in time for the C7, like many were hoping...for this very issue I imagine (among others). If you want to mate a DCT to a high torque engine...it's gonna be VERY expensive.

Yep. Think Ferrari/Bugatti.

Of course, it could be argued that this is only because no one has come up with a simple and inexpensive solution to this problem rather than it cannot be done. It would be cool to see GM come out with a system that can handle it shortly after BMW and Porsche said that it was impossible.

whats the point of this thread?

Want a turbine kit for your Camaro?

Too bad. Nobody is making one.

Or

Want a rocket launcher mount for your camaro?

TOO BAD. Nobody is going to make one.

Sorry, I just dont get the point of telling people they cant have something that was never planned in the first place.

The point of this thread was to inform people as to the short comings of the BMW/P-car DCT system, and how it was unlikely to see any GM product with a high torque output recieving such a system in the near future.

How many people would have clicked on it if it was titled ''DCT to be disscontinued in BMW and Porsche''?
