I'd rather the engine "break" withing the first 1000 miles than breaking down when the warranty is out or years later. There is a reason it is called the "Break...in...period".

Chalk that one up for the "not too good file". I'm sure GM will get these issues worked out.....

I don't know if anyone is following this story over on corvetteforum, but the drama is off the charts. Here's a link: http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/...-is-blown.html

Anyway, whatever caused the failure, whether it was a manufacturer defect or owner abuse, I don't know. But according to the OP, there are four more engine failures that he knows of: http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/...post1588619937

So this may be more than just an isolated indecent.

What sucks is it's no longer a numbers matching car. Not sure, but for a Z06 I think that might matter.

I wouldn't say this had anything to do with operator error, or improper break in. Unless GM's fail-safe's for the ZO6 are different from the rest of their cars. Even if he shifted down a gear, or over reved the car he would still hit a rev limiter. I could be totally wrong about the saftey systems on a Vett but thats the way it is on our cars, unless you tune it out.

There is no way to limit an over rev if it is due to the driver downshifting too far with a manual.

I'm not about to try again but when I first bought my car I missed 4th and hit 3rd and it cut out.

Well if you had hit second instead of fourth at a high enough speed it would have been a different story. The inertia of the vehicle will cause the motor to over-rev, no electronics will save you in that scenario.
