I miss the Monte

I miss the Monte Carlo...it was a nice coupe, although I did not like the final version with the rounded fascias (looked like those ugly Impalas). I found this one on Carmax for under 12K (with very low miles). Probably a flood survivor!

I love my monte carlo as well, but I really want to replace it with something newer. I'll probably keep monte until it dies. I expect that to be around a million miles. Nice car though. I always wanted a black one of that body style. I'm opposite of you though, I loved the final model year I just didn't like that the SS's were still, shall I say it, "front wheel drive"

If you have one you should keep it. I don't think GM plans to build these again. Besides, the next version would probably be some plug-in that has none of the grace and luxury that the Monte Carlo always had.

The Monte Carlo died after the G-body died. W-body montes are a sin IMO. I would know; we just ditched our 96 basketcase Z34 for a Focus. Exploding serpentine belts and pulleys on a 3400 motor can sour that impression of a 'zomgcool car'

Yeah. I still hate W-Montes.

I really, really miss my Monte Carlo. I had a 2002 Monte Carlo SS, Galaxy Silver with Black Leather interior. It had the "high sport" appearance package. Great car. Some people will give s*** on these boards for saying this, but I still think the quality of my Monte surpasses that of my new 2010 Camaro. It was perfect!! Here is a pic I took at the UAW 400 at the Las Vegas Motorspeed way as she was parked by the East gates and then I had a little fun with photoshop.

Yeah, I got one of the Grandma looking 98' monte carlos. I'm saving my money for something with a little more spunk. But the deal on mine was too good to pass up. So far It's got me through college, and beyond so I'm happy

Yeah. I hate Montes.

I am yet to have a serious problem with my car, and I run it extremely hard. You can almost call it abuse.

Yeah, bad day (see elsewhere..). But I still stand by the fact that W-bodys were..not the right choice for the reincarnated Monte. I'm a G-body Monte guy.

I'm assuming a W-body is the same as my model of monte carlo. I have a 98'. I would have to say my monte is a pretty good car, but performance, handling, and seriously the overall looks of the car is lacking. Great car, but not a monte carlo.

Correct. I just had a crappy example. Motor practically blew at a red light 2 years into owning it. It was a '96 so.. I guess that may be why.

I know that the 95 -99 Monte Z34's with the 3.4L V6 that put out 215hp where notorious for have bad head gaskets.

yeah the 95-99 Monte Carlo's that were 'Lumina' based were big POS on wheels. at least the 00-07 cars were far better engineered. the 00 up Impala is a WAY better platform than the Lumina. My Monte (Monty) has almost 148 thousand miles and its a 2004. other than plugs and wires, and i think the upper radiator hose the engine has NEVER been touched or opened up to be worked on. the 3.4 3400 V8 with 180hp has MORE than enough power to move my car weather in town or on the highway. as my dad said when he owned the car before me it was not the best car in the world but it did everything RIGHT . I personally LOVED the styling of the 00-06 cars (before they shared the same front fascia with the 07 up Impala. and even though it was a modern day car, I loved LOVED having a pull out knob to turn on the headlights like in the 70s and back cars . I don't mind the later Montes but what I don't understand is when they redid the entire interior WHY did they relocate the ignition switch BACK to the steering column when it was on the dash to the right of it on the 00-06 cars ?
