tunneau cover

Is there any reason you need to put tunneau cover on everytime the top is down or are there some circumstances that require to have it used all the time or not at all making it only a decorative piece only

I usually put it on unless I am going at slower speeds, 30-45 mph. Anything else, and on it goes...

No, you don't need to every time. I usually put the cover on if the top will be down for more than a day. I think it reduces wear and tear on the top and makes the car look a bit nicer.

For 2011 - 2014 the cover was optional on the 1LT and 1SS convertibles. In 2015 it will be an option for the 2LT. Lots of convertibles sold over the years without a tonneau cover.

1. Looks better
2. Keeps the top from flapping around at highway speeds
3. Reduces wear and tear, fading from UV
4. Keeps birdshit and other foreign objects out of the well
5. Easy on/off (no reason not to use it)
6. Treat with Adams interior cleaner and leather protectant (yes I know it's vinyl)
7. Don't be lazy like Mustang owners
8. Looks better

why couldn't they have just made the sides of the tonneau with the dimpled pattern in the plastic instead of material over smooth plastic? This way the delamination wouldn't be happening

What's your advice?

This week the weather is warming enough to drop the top for the first time since purchasing my Camaro. It's the first convertible I've owned.
My commute is 12 miles / 35 minutes, 8 of which are on a freeway, with brief spurts hitting 55 mph.
Would you forgo the time involved in putting the tonneau cover on/off or spend the time putting it on/off?

I wouldn't put it on/take it off for single drives. However, if you have a parking situation like I did (semi-private garage) where you believe it would be secure with just a cover, I'd put it on and leave the top down. I have left the car like this at four places without trouble: work, the golf club, car club/racetrack events, my garage.

I notice the parking garage in the picture has a low ceiling like the one at my work. Are you able to easily clear it to raise/lower the convertible top? It's been a concern of mine.
Also, how much was the cover?

No problem opening and closing in that public garage or my home garage. It really doesn't go up very high. The cover was $114 in Noah fabric. It has held up well through two seasons of daily use. There are other fabrics and colors available if you have different priorities.
