diagnostic. help
Here's the issue. Custom built roadster with an ecm from a 2002 vette. Car ran perfect,sat for several months and battery went dead. Jumped it started and ran fine, drove a short distance shut it off. Needed to be jumped again, car now starts, runs for a second or two and dies. Any thoughts?

Sounds like the alternator or the battery is shot.

Just happened to see this... by chance, the OP is discussing a similar issue with Corvette. There are a number of suggestions in the thread, some of which haven't been suggested in THIS thread.. maybe you'll find it there?

If you have an anti theft problem, you can reset the system by following this procedure.
1. Turn key on and try to start, leave key on for ten minutes or untill the anti-theft light goes out 2. Turn key off for ten seconds. 3. Turn key on but do not start. Leave key on for ten minutes or untill the theft light goes out. Repeat 2 and 3. 4. Turn key off for ten seconds and then try to start the engine. This will work on most GM vehicles, but I can't guarantee it will work on your set-up. Before starting the relearn process, hook up a battery charger. If the battery goes dead while in relearn, you will have to start over.

If it is the anti-theft system and by your description it seems like it is, you could always eliminate that portion of the system using the following unless you want to keep the anti-theft system;
http://newrockies.com/ I`ve used this system when I did and engine and ECM swap and have not had any issue for almost 2 years. If you do use this system, buy the USA module not the Chinese module, Their probably both good, I just have a problem with trusting inexpensive labor but then again paying top dollar isn`t always a guarantee of quality either. Good luck, I hope it something simple and inexpensive. |

Figured I'd update this. The ECM used has the antitheft function disabled. The ECM was sent back to the vendor and they think that when the car was jumped it damaged the unit as it tests bad. They are sending a new one to install.
