Check engine flashing, service stabilitrack, rough running with tick

Hello all,

I have had my M6 ls3 2011 for 6 months now it is Comp Cammed, spectre CAI, Airraid Throttle body spacer.

It has run fine the whole time till this morning. it ran fine till i turned a sharp corner heading to work than all of a sudden loud tick/knock and wicked missfire as well as the CEL flashing and service stabilitrack on. it did that for 1/2 a kilometer before i got to work. through my scanner on it and no DTCS.

anyone help out with anything that woiuld help lead to diagnosis

Let me make sure I understand correctly-
The CEL and Service Stabilitrack lights came on, but it did not throw a Reduced Power at you, and it only happened for 1/2 a km and now has gone away?

It reduced major power almost as if its missfiring hard... did for 1/2km b3fo4e I made it to work and shut it down

That doesn't sound good. Usually with a flashing CEL you should stop and shut it down immediately. I'd have been calling a tow truck and not tried to limp it anywhere.

Since you have a cam I would likely assume something like a broken valve spring or something of that nature. Most likely something in the valve train at least.

Either way it sounds pretty bad, are you sure it didn't lose oil pressure? Did you happen to check your oil pressure gauge while this was happening?

Probably at this point I would see if it's possible to connect a mechanical pressure gauge to it and pull the ignition fuse to it won't start and turn it over to check for oil pressure.

I'm sure somebody here can advise on which fuses to pull, or you could just disconnect the plug wires. If it has no oil pressure you certainly don't want to fire the thing up.

Oil pressure and temp were good through out the time, no smoke from what I could see

That's good then. Odd there wasn't a code stored.

Get your fueling checked out. You're probably running a bit rich and the blm's were so low that your engine actually cut off due to insufficient fuel and then restarted; causing you to see those flashing lights and messages. You will not see any codes, 'cos the car is only restarting as if you push-started it.

Same thing happened to me. My car was running really rich and I hooked up a bluetooth OBD-II scanner and kept an eye on my blm's; in traffic or at a stop I'd see the blm's start dropping to about -20% and then the engine would stutter and the blm's would reset to 0% and the cycle will continue until I get going. It's when the blm's were in the -'s that I had the engine cutoff and start up again and cause people riding with me to think I didn't know how to drive a stick ... lol ... it was the same while driving on the highway in high gear at about 60mph when the RPM's were really low. The computer kept pulling fuel until it stalls out and then reset when it sees the car stall. Had my friend lower the numbers on the MAF table a by 5% in the lower ranges and it fixed it ... now I can idle all day long and have no issues on light throttle on the highway. ... I still need to get the car tuned though, just didn't have time for a full tune.

Mean Green Z28 the car isnt stuttering and the driveability is poor but its not bucking like Im assuming you are trying to explain. Its Misfiring bad, and accompanying that misfire is a loud ticking coming from what sounds like in one of the heads. No smoke from the tail pipes and no metal shavings in the oil from what i can tell from the dipstick

Also it did it only when warm outside. Colder air helped the rich condition during the winter months so I let it be. As soon as it got a bit warm, it came back and I was having none of that shit again!

The noise makes it feel like a possible valve spring. Especially seeing as your cammed.

it finally threw a code for misfire in cylinder two and the clacking is making my boss think its a worn through rocker........ Im going to pull the spark plugs tonight and check them and replace while im in there. if that stops the misfire I'll be alright, If the clicking is still there im pulling the valve cover and gonna hope for the best.
