First Start "after" Winter Storage

I've searched and could not find the answer. If the car has been in storage for ~6 months...is there something that should be done to distribute oil prior to turning the key and firing it up?

I thought I read somewhere a while back that you can hold the accelerator all the way to the floor while turing the key and the engine will get primed with oil and not start. Any truth to this? Should some fuse get pulled first?

Or just stick the key in and start?

When I take mine out I just start it up and it is fine. I then just let it sit and let everything get warm before I drive it. That usually gives me enough time to take air out of the tires and other misc. things that need to get done.

You never touch the accelerator when starting fuel injected motors. That's what I was told years ago so I never have. You do that all the oil is in the base. Just start it up and let it idle so the oil can warm up & get to where it needs to be. But make sure you check your oil pressure.

you could pull the fuel pump fuse and turn over the engine so it pumps oil everywhere prior to starting. the pistons are still moving but less load due to no combusion.

it's well know that most (e.g. 70%) engine wear occurs at startup. and if sitting 6 mos, it's only gonna be worse. but if it's only once a year, I don't think it's that big a deal to just start up and let idle (especially with synthetic oil). like kjkjr27 says, let it warm up completely before you drive it.

Turn the key. Don't touch the gas pedal.

Let the engine run a few minutes before driving.

I guess the only thing I have consistently not done is start an engine that's been in deep freeze storage on a really cold day. I like to let the ambient temperature get above freezing before I spin it... But if the 5W means anything at all, it probably doesn't make much difference.

I adjust the tire pressure, let it warm up and drive it conservatively the first few miles then tier the aggressive driving up the latter a little more each time I drive her. the first fill up I put in a little dry gas or sea foam. and that is pretty much it til it's time to do the spring detail, usually in a month or so.

Did you leave the battery in or remove it? Mine's been in storage for 5 months but I left the battery in it because I've been going out at least once a week to fire it up and let it run for a while to keep things flowing.

FYI...Everything I've read is if you store your car for over 30 days you should not start it until it's time to drive it again. Either disconnect the battery or put on a battery tender. There are some threads with crazy detailed instructions for long term storing.

....with "crazy detailed instructions" being the operative phrase.

Ive been storing mine since october. Did nothing but stability in the tank. Got to wait another month or so until I can start or move it. Kept the battery hooked up and no tinder.
