Controlling AFM on the C7
I was looking at some of the information on the C7 and some places were saying that AFM doesn't kick in in the Sport or Track modes, but on the Chevy site is says that AFM is "normal" when in track mode. Can anyone confirm which is correct?
The list can be seen here about halfway down: http://www.chevrolet.com/corvette-stingray.html |

Page 9-40 of your owner's manual will answer your question.
EDIT: not really.... I guess we need to know what "normal" and "eco" differences are... this may help: http://www.digitaltrends.com/cars/46...he-impossible/ and here is more info: "AFM is easily deactivated. It only works when you select Eco mode. When the auto is in manual mode it doesn't work either. AFM only activates at very low throttle and is hardly noticeable."

yup - much of what is written in manuls about AFM, exhaust settinfgs and other things are incomplete
AFM is as simple as this: 1. it will never work at all on a 7 speed unless you are in ECO mode 2. It works in ALL modes on the auto trans UNLESS YOU USE THE PADDLES OR GO TO MANUAL IN ANY MODE.. To watch it work - find your fuel range display and watch the v4/v8 boxes:

Okay sounds good, thanks guys. I don't have one yet, but I wanted to make sure there was a way to shut it off without tuning it.

this is probably the most important post so far...I was TERRIFIED when I heard the Vette had AFM - because the AFM on the 2013 Camaro was terrible. But on the C7, unless you are watching the little v8/v4 boxes and very anal, it really is close to invisible on an automatic....

I was terrified when I heard that as well. I was happy though when I heard that track mode shuts it off, so when I saw this on the site I got worried.

AFM is nearly invisble on the manual (ECO mode) and what a relief! If you grip the shifter while it transitions from V8 to V4 and vice-versa, you can feel the AFM at work via mild vibrations pulsing to the shifter. Not a biggie, since the torque tube masks it quite well. Btw, you can test this out while in cruise control on a flat road by switching your Driving Mode Selector to/from Eco to Weather or Touring. You can verify this by also watching the V8/V4 icon change back & forth.

There is noticable vibration in AFM in the shifter on my 7 speed manual. Not terroble but easily recognizable. Every one else too?

Yup the inherent side-effect of AFM... it's not that bad on mine. I can clearly feel/notice when I hold the shifter firmly as it transitions to/fro V4. I hardly drive in Eco mode anyway so again no biggie. Be glad it's not even close to the Camaro SS with the L99. Now that's effin annoying... Range solved it for me since March of last year. So glad I was one of the first/early adopters and no issues since; V8 all the time when plugged.

I've had AFM in my '06, '07 Monte Carlo SS's and in my '11 Camaro SS.
I loved it! Great mileage and power when I needed it. Unless I was watching the tach, I never knew when it was cruising on 4 or 8 cylinders. |

Having driven my 7 speed for a little over 1000 miles now, I agree that you will certainly notice when it engages with the engine under 1300 RPMs. At 65 MPH in 7th gear, the engine is turning approx 1300 RPMs. This is the minimum speed you want to be at with AFM, otherwise the droning is too invasive and I question what effect the constant vibration that you feel thru the car and especially on the shift lever will have on long term wear. Don't get me wrong, it does work and it is a good fuel saving feature, however you need to select your gear to keep the RPMs above 1300 for the desired speed. Perhaps on automatics, the torque converter can absorb the vibrations that the manual can't.
