Why The Hate For Ford?

I never could understand the hatred for Ford and vice versa. I'm 41 years old and I remember the end of the muscle car era from when I was very young. I grew up loving all American Muscle. While my favorite car was the Chevelle, I liked Ford's and Dodge's too.

Now that we have the new muscle car era, I'm proud of all these American Beasts on the road. When I got laid off from the hedge fund I worked for, I sold my M3 and bought a "pedestrian" 2012 Mustang GT Premium Coupe. I absolutely loved the car. I think it fit me better than any car before, even the BMW M3s. Unfortunately, I always want more horsepower and only kept the car for 1.5 years. I had no problems at all with the car. The paint was the sturdiest I've ever had on car. I actually miss it.

So my decision about a month ago was between a)Corvette - would be tough because I have a young child and 3 dogs. b)Shelby GT500 or c) ZL1. I ended up picking the ZL1 not for the marquee, but for the way it can be driven around town easily without killing it's occupants. The Shelby is much harder to drive normally around town. I could not believe the difference in user friendliness. I honestly wouldn't trust driving my daughter around in the Shelby. I just drove my ZL1 with the stock F1's around in the snowstorm that hit the east coast and I had no problems. Anyway, I am happy with my decision, but always wonder "what if?".

My question is why there is so much hatred between Ford and Chevy. They are both American. I like both company's cars. No one can say that the Mustang is not a well built pony car and vice versa for the Camaro. Both offer a great bang for the buck. I would buy and have bought both of them. I like Dodge too, but don't trust the quality.

Is there anyone out there that can enlighten me on the feud? Is it just blind allegiance? Anyone feel like I do?

I drive a Ford pickup (KingRanch) just because its got bells and whistles that I wish Chevy had or I would have have bought another Duramax. I almost Bought a GT-500 but after trolling every forum of Camaros and Mustangs I chose the ZL-1 because the problems that were being reported weren't as bad as the Mustang. I personally don't care or have any hate. Cars or trucks are like women to me. Whichever one turns me on gets into my wallet. Period!!!

Hahaha! Perfect analogy.

I may actually get the Ford Raptor.

No hate here, I bought my son a very used Mustang for his first car, it was what he wanted and really all that matters is that YOU are happy, everyone is entitled to his or her choice.

It's like a religion. You're usually in one camp or another. You won't find that many "bi" owners here, and pretty much the only tranny's you'll find are the ones under the floor hump.

So to those that are bi or tri, no real hate given, but I'm staying pure to the breed because it's my choice. I guess that makes me pro-choice?

I don't get it either. I shopped snakes, Porsches, Bimmers, and a ton of other things. The Zed was the one that ticked the most boxes, and I had friends at GM in Detroit who could help me get a good price. Seeing as I am a "conquest" customer from BMWs, I think GM'd be ecstatic to hear that.

The ZL1 is Chevy's M3. It's comfortable, fast and fun to drive. And can be tracked under warranty. The kicker? Chevy's M3 is cheaper, more comfortable, more reliable, and eventually more moddable and affordable than BMW's without the pretense of the BMW. I still drive a Bimmer (an E39 wagon), but now that an oil dipstick is like a $15k option (you only get an actual dipstick on M-cars, or at least you did, they may have changed it), I won't buy a newer one than, say, 03.

It just makes you brand loyal, and there's nothing wrong with that either. As I overheard on an auction once, "Let your money bring you happiness."

Forget the haters. They're wasting their time. Don't let them waste yours.

I have mixed feelings about Ford. I like what they did with the 2010-2014 Mustang but I'd never own one. I do public safety equipment two-way radio installs lighting installs for Highway departments, police, etc. After every time I work on a newer Ford Vehicle at work I tell my wife she will never buy a Ford. Crappy interior work, shoddy component quality, and in general they've made their vehicles damn tough to work on as if they purposely want you to say screw it and take it to the dealership for repair. Now I just worked on a new 2014 Chevy Silverado, and Equinox a few weeks ago and they both were a walk in the park easy to work on. Long term when doing removals from vehicles (about 5-10 years old) I find that the Fords are always by far the most ready to see the scrap yard while the equal Chevy vehicle that was being used for the same purpose is ready to be polished up and sold to a new owner. As for Dodge/Chrysler to me they are somewhere in between Chevy & Ford.

I think it comes from what either their parents owned or just a brand they feel in love with as a child...for me i look at it as i am a GM man at heart, but have owned every brand based on cost performance, and the over all look of each vehicle.....All 3 brands have either made junk,or blown us out of the water....People like to believe what they own is the best,so they wave whatever flag they are driving....

I'm with you OP. I currently have a ZL1 and just bought a 2014 Raptor. My wife has a 2012 Grand Cherokee too. I think it would be very boring to stay tied to one brand. Like I've said before, I have done more for these companies than they have ever done for me. I see no reason to wave the fan boy flag of any of them. I may feel differently if I had some direct connection to one of them as I know many of you do.

I think it comes down to an individual's insecurities, and a need to always be correct.

Ego.

"My choice is better than your choice. Period."

What's funny to me, read any car article and Joe "Zitface" McKenzie will announce to the world, in the comments, why said car is crap and why he would never buy it. Even if nobody, really, has driven it.

see 2014 Z/28 or 2015 Mustang or 2013 Viper.

I'm A GM Guy By Nature - But, If I Could Afford It I'd Have A Super Snake Sitting Next To The ZL-1 And Have No Problem With It
