Trouble deciding....

Hey guys,

I'm trying to decide on a replacement for my truck. I want to back to a sedan (since I have no use for the truck anymore and since work took the work truck back since I changed roles).

I've narrowed it down to the following:

Impala ECO/1LTZ
Taurus SHO
and since I was so damn taken by her:
Chevy SS.

aaaaaaand go

I guess the question that should be asked before we all jump to "our brand's" corners is:

What is the sedan going to be used for?

DD? Weekend cruiser?

Also; what do you want out of it?

The SS is obviously the most sporty of the three. RWD, LS3, good interior space...bland exterior for what it is IMO.

The SHO is somewhat of a middle ground. Decent performance (especially with a tune), AWD...small interior space for a car as large as it is.

The Imp Eco, would seem to be the most economical of the three, eAssist, FWD...not very sporty.

It would be my everyday driver for work and errands. My ZL1 would continue to be the weekend warrior/fun time car.

If you could swing it go for the SS but if you want to save some money on basically every aspect of the car and if sporty isn't your top priority then I would go for the Impala Eco. I drive the Cruze Eco as a daily and it has been a great car and the gas mileage has been incredible, to drive ~200 Miles I use about $15 in gas.

That's what I was thinking.

The one thing that would confirm it for me is if I could find out how hard it would be to drop the HIDs and LED running lights from the LTZ trims into the LT trims.

They all have the projector beam headlamps but every trim but the LT has the halogen projectors while the LTZ comes with HID.

I'd just get a straight LTZ but that "wood" piece on the steering wheel is very distracting. Ruins the whole feel of the wheel, which is already questionable for me.

The SS interior is a grand slam, top to bottom.

Well, if it was my daily driver I would probably go with the SHO, but an SS would be next on the list. The Impala is nice but I just don't want to go back to a FWD car anytime soon. If you don't mind FWD, then I you should put the Impala first on your list.

I suspect it would be easier to change the steering wheel than swap out the headlamps. I think the changing the headlamps could prove to be very expensive--I'm not sure it's plug and play.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of your three choices though. I would test drive the Impala and SHO and see what you think. I think you could work out a pretty good deal for either the Impala or the SHO (if you buy before year end) but dealers will try to extort more money out of you for the SS.

Hey, what about a pre-owned CTS-V? You could get a 2011, maybe a 2012 for about the same price as the SHO or SS....

I have test driven them all, except the SS. I've sat in the SS. Dealer wouldn't let me test drive it.

That's what makes it hard to decide. I'm back and forth between them all. I'm actively looking for reasons not to get them.

and since I have a ZL1, I really don't need the CTS-V, plus I'm not a total fan of the previous CTS design. Now the current CTS = but that's way more than I want to spend at the moment. Hell, even the SS is kinda pushing it.

I agree with SS 376 that it might be easier and cheaper to swap the steering wheel if you can find one you like with all the correct controls. Might be "plug 'n play" with the control connectors too. Swapping lights gets pretty expensive in the Camaros after you buy wiring harnesses, lights, etc. so I would expect the same with the Impala.

Good luck with your decision!

I would just buy the LT steering wheel so it would match, just wouldn't have the "wood" piece on top of it

Seems simpler to just change the steering wheel than to replace the headlights. I am not a big fan of the looks of either the Impala or SHO but between the two for a daily driver I would choose the Impala since you have the ZL1. All around it will be cheaper and then you still have your fun car at home and more money to mod it

Like Gretchen mentioned the one downside to the Impala is that it is Front Wheel drive which I am not to found of but can deal with.
