I heard Ford churchs up their numbers what about chevy

My salesman father said a car reputable car guy came in the other day and was saying how ford up's their HP numbers in their cars. This link proves that ford churched up the Gt500 by 29hp, which is quite a number to be off by. Is chevy more accurate>

jalopnik is not always the best source.

but more often than not, GM cuts down the reported numbers from the actual ones

It won't matter. The 5th gen is king right now no matter what ford does. Ford needs a new design for the stangs to compete. A movie featuring it wouldn't hurt.

i agree the gt isnt selling at all, one the camaro, but 50k to spend on mustang is probably a bigger reason.

So if GM is cutting numbers what does the camaro really have. I saw something before that the LS3 has 430 so why is it 426 now.

From eveything I've read atleast with the new gt500 It's the other way around. the gt500 is somewhere around 570hp. there are several dyno pulls on youtube from a couple of magazines that backs this up. the car still only runs about 2tens faster than the ls3. top end is much higher.

I think Fords problem is the solid axle and the Pinto style leg rubbing brake lever not HP.
Maybe the Dyno's they use are different brands as well.

Also they made a whole new car and got lazy on the dashboard and steering wheel.

Ford loves to keep dashboards unchanged for as many years as they can get away with. Lazyness. 2010 looks so messed up inside like an 80's parachute pants party gone wrong.

There is no doubt that the 2010 GT500 will keep it up top as the king. I love that car .. just out of my price range. You have to take dyno results with a grain of salt. As we have seen on the LS3 Camaro, you could dyno stock anywhere from 350s to 370s (for an average and give or take for the oddball ones). That is a pretty wide variance to go for .. if you consider 16% loss on the manual, you would dyno around 358 at the wheels. So if you were one that dyno'd around 370, would that mean you actually made 440 at the crank? Maybe, but maybe it is just how that dyno reads.

I do know that my 4th gen SS was definately underated from the factory. They claimed 325 - 330 at the crank and bone stock I dyno'd 306 at the wheels .. either that drive train was really efficient or I had a hell of a lot more power

But with the solid axle on the track it's epic fail.

A $23 grand manual LS with no options Camaro can pull more lateral G's with proper tires than the most expensive 2010 mustang you can buy.

The LS3 is rated at 430 hp in the Corvette.

It's the old GM addage, nothing is allowed to have more HP than the Vette.
Think Buick Grand National... REALLY underrated HP numbers, but they didn't want to advertise more thant he vette.

I've done two Camaro LS3's and they are putting between 430 and 435 at the crank stock. Not as underrated as the LS1 for sure, but it is underrated.

top gear print media (magazine, not sure exactly what they call it) actually compared the GT500, SS and SRT8 recently. that said, while the camaro had the best ride, the GT500 was actually better in the turns. the 2010 mustang despite the solid rear axel has suprised many by its capablity to negotiate turns well. i remember that episode of top gear. i was suprised that they didn't clarify the difference between stated crank HP and horsepower to the wheels. given a standard loss, the dyno number equates to roughly 500 crank, even in that video, which is why i find top gear TV enjoyable for entertainment purposes mostly. their magazine/print media is actually more accurate when it comes to performance testing.

as to "churching" HP, the GT500 actually dyno'd at higher than normal loss. like stated upthread, its actually above 540 at the crank. here's a link to the Top Gear article that compares the 3 2010s:

as much as i love the camaro interior in its basic trim (i think it looks great straight black), the mustang has the nicer interior in my opinion. i know it is the standard Ford interior these days, but even in its basic cloth trim, it really has the edge in look, organization and feel, at least from my perspective.

interesting, i wonder how far off they were when they said that if ford went with an IRS the price would go up by $5k
