ok, this should be a fairly simple solution, i'm just not sure the easiest way to say it. lol
- I have one internet connection in the apartment. - it's in the master bedroom. - I also have a second internet coax/outlet in the living room, but it's in a very weird location. basically, I can't put the tv there, because it would block the hallway, so the tv sits across the room, and don't want wires running everywhere. I currently have my computer/modem/router in the bedroom. Whats the best way to connect my xbox live, that's in the living room? a wireless router that pics up the internet from the bedroom, and connect that to the xbox?

Wired is always the best type of connection to use, you can get some long cable for a really good price. But if that is ABSOLUTELY out of the question you could always use a wireless router. And if the signal isn't great you could invest in a wireless repeater to rebroadcast the signal at a different location

Rule of thumb is that going wireless USUALLY gives you half the speed as wired

That depends on the wireless router you have/get and what broadband speed you can get from your ISP. At my house I get 25-27 Download and 10-12 Upload if Im wired. If its Wireless than about 12-15 Download and 4-6 Upload. Then you gotta take into account what frequency your wireless router broadcast in. 2.4ghz or 5ghz Some do both. Reason being that sometimes other appliance can interfere with the broadcast.
12MB/s Download and 6MB/s Upload is fine for gaming. But for me I would rather go with wired connections just cause my wife could watch netflix while i game with no problems |

Yea but realize that is running of wireless to be technical. It is taking the already slower broadcasting signal to wire that to you xbox. It will be still slower than directly to the main router. But it should work for you specially without all the wires. Too be perfectly honest you shouldnt ever really have problems on wireless connections as far as speed goes until you start doing multiple things at once like streaming a movie, playing a online game and browsing the internet at the same time

So maybe I need to figure out a way to connect to the coaxial connection in the living room, to another router, and just connect that to the xbox. and hide the wires...blah
edit: or rather a modem, not router

lol like i said if your getting 12mb/a download and 4-6mb/s upload while running a wireless setup, you shouldn't see any problems when you have JUST playing games. Its when you start running multiple things at once you'll see buffering in netflix, lag in games and slow load times

well, more than likely, there will be a good chance for streaming on both systems at the same time. Netflix for my daughter, while we watch something else on hulu/Netflix.
