46 MPG turbo diesel Cruze? o.0

Not sure how this one slipped through the cracks. I haven't seen anything about it and just now heard about it.

This was revealed in February.

Finalized FE numbers in April and finalized power output last month.

Well, none of us in the lounge knew, now there's a thread to discuss it.

There's your turbo diesel. They're at dealers now if you want to take a closer look.

You should calculate how long it will take to break even on the $8,000 difference between a base Cruze and a diesel Cruze.

and I'm suspecting that numbers greater than 46 on the highway are possible without trying overly hard.

But yes that 8,000 dollar difference in price is a bit hard to swallow.

It's not really an $8k difference. The Diesel is built off the 2LT package. It's more like a $3k difference.

I realize the diesel has more goodies and creature comforts. What I don't get is GM's decision to only make this engine available in higher trims.

People want this engine to save money. Anyone who has done a bit of research into hybrid or diesel options know they cost more up front just for the drivetrain itself. I guarantee there are buyers out there that just want the cheapest vehicle they can find with the best MPGs....so why not give those potential buyers the option of getting this engine in an otherwise base car? It may only be 1000 to 2000 dollars cheaper if they were to remove the higher trim and replace with base stuff, but for some buyers thats what they want.

That said, I'm not hatin on this car...I really hope it does very well!

GM is testing the waters with this engine. They will only offer it in 1 trim until it proves people will buy it. Also most people buying a new car will opt for the nicer model.

I really want to get one for work. But cargo capacity is the major issue. So I went with a 21mpg equinox. I would love the savings of 46 mpg
