AGGGGGGH!

I hate it when GM has these end of year sales...

I have a 2010 GMC crew cab SLE truck. It's been a great truck, but it didn't have all the bells and whistles I really wanted when I bought it. The truck I'm eyeballing is north of the $41K range MSRP.

GMC/Chevy has been running the ads on the $9250 off and such for discounts on crew cabs. Now, there's a 2013 Crew Cab SLE I've got my eye on that DOES have all the bells and whistles I would like. Depending on the trade-in value, I could write a check for the difference or get a great rate at the credit union for a 36 month loan and pay around 170/month depending on what the difference truly is.

The Dave Ramsey part of me says I've got a good truck with 27K miles that is paid for and buying a new truck right now is a dumb move. The other part of me says that this will likely be the last truck I'll buy before retirement in a few years and I think if I WERE to do something, it's right in the sweet spot as far as stock availability and price range. But basically this week only (June 3rd all the cool current incentives expire).

Good deals are always available when you're NOT looking for them.

Does the truck youre looking at have the 6.2?

Also the new 2014's are starting to hit the lot may be worth waiting a bit. I also have a 2010 I am going to hold out as long as I can.

The deals on GMT-900s are indeed really good...but the K2XXs are a big improvement.

Always listen to Dave Ramsey (well, most of the time, anyway).

IMO, it really isn't worth trading up to just a newer model year of what is mostly the same truck. Something newer will always come out in a year or two, which is why last year's models are discounted so heavily. I'd never trade up to the last year of an aged, outgoing model, particularly if I already had one of the same model, just to get a few options I didn't check the first time.

Ask yourself if those extras would be worth it to you if they were combined a $6120 option on the sticker, because that ($170*36mo) is essentially what you would be doing. (And I suspect given 3 model years difference on top of an extra list of options, the difference you would be looking at after trade-in would be more.) Answer that question, and that should be your decision.

Yea don't trade in something isn't that old or has many miles also its paid off. I would wait a lil longer till the new models hit the streets and then deals would be a lot better.

Good advice. Like I said, it's not something I need to do.

But I was also thinking that I plan on retiring about 6 years from now and wanted to maintain a kind of low mile truck on hand...

It's also that I'd be "losing" about 4 grand on trade-in from what I paid for the 2010 (36K MSRP got for 27K), but have to come up with about another 7-8 grand to get in this truck. My total $$ investment for this truck and the 2013 would still be less than the MSRP of the 2013 truck, 39K outlay for $41K MSRP on the 2013. So I wouldn't be upside down really.

$$ is not really the issue. I'm already pouring money into Roth, 401k, investments for retirement, so the money is something that likely will get spent on SOMETHING. If I just got rid of my cellphone bill, I wouldn't even notice it probably.

Also, I know that waiting longer may give deeper discounts perhaps, but also less choice of options/colors, etc.

As nice as it may sound, I think that it's moreso that it's just NEWER with a few more bells/whistles but not technically different. Not 7-8K worth of difference anyway. Better yet, I think I'll stand pat and put that extra $$ toward the ZL1 convertible fund instead.

Still, it's tempting.
