C7 to weigh 90 pounds more than C6

Quote:
Remember how the 2014 Corvette Stingray had a frame that was 99 pounds lighter than the outgoing C6 'Vette? Remember how excited we all were? Well, the frame might be lighter, but the car is 90 pounds heavier. Cue sad trombone.

The Stingray does save a lot of weight in the body, but it appears that the weight gain is actually in some useful areas. The direct injection, the brakes, the driveshafts, the clutch, the fuel tank, etc.

All of these weight gain areas will make for a stronger car, so it isn't all negative news. And the car still looks really, really, hot.

But part of me still wishes it was the featherweight we thought it was going to be. I guess we'll have to wait for the Z06 for that to happen.

Sucks it is going to weigh more. But I think we can all agree the C7 will be superior in just about every way..

Considering the performance is equal to or even somewhat better than the C6 Grand Sport, perhaps a better weight comparison would be to the GS, not the base C6. In that case, the new Stingray is 13 less. So the new, lighter Stingray does exist!
(Base C6 curb weight, 3208 lbs.; GS C6 curb weight, 3311 lbs.; Base C7 curb weight 3298 lbs.)

I think it'll perform better than a GS. And most of the weight is due to AFM and electronics being added. And while this isn't finalized but pretty close, we can always hope they can shave off a few more.

Regarding 3298 lbs.... is that for a base non-Z51 1LT Stingray? i.e. not one single extra-cost option that will add weight... therefore barebones.

I would say wait until GM announces the curb weight but they had the exterior nailed what, a year ahead of the reveal?

I was thinking the same thing. Great minds think alike!

Right, so for the Z51 added cooling ducts and pumps, i'd expect another 30-50lbs.

From what I've heard of people talking to the engineers and test drivers was that they were still trying to shave weight and thin out any pieces that could be done until as late as possible. Since production doesn't start until next month there still could be minor changes done.
