Spied: Cadillac ATS Coupe and 2015 Chevrolet Cruze

Spied: Cadillac's upcoming ATS Coupe
LeftLaneNews
By Drew Johnson

April 23, 2013

Our spy photographers have just sent us the first visual confirmation that Cadillac is moving forward with its long-rumored ATS coupe.

The last several months have been filled with on again, off again ATS coupe rumors, but all of those reports can now be put to bed as we have concrete evidence that a two-door version of Cadillac's 3-Series fighter is on the horizon.

Although spotted briefly and still covered in camouflage, the car in question is clearly an early prototype for Cadillac's upcoming ATS coupe. The prototype is nearly identical to the ATS sedan from the A-pillars forward, but loses its back doors in favor of a swooping roofline.

The ATS coupe appears to be less angular slab-sided than its CTS coupe cousin, which should give the car a more conventional look. A taller rear window will undoubtedly aid in rear visibility.

Powertrains remain a mystery, but the entry-level ATS coupe will likely come with a 2.0L turbocharged engine rather than the sedan's naturally-aspirated 2.5L.

It remains unknown when the Cadillac ATS coupe will launch but, judging by the state of this prototype, it will likely be several months before we see a two-door ATS in dealer showrooms.

2015 Chevrolet Cruze spied on its home turf

The next Chevrolet Cruze isn't set to go into production for about another year, and we're just now seeing prototypes of the new compact running around here in the States. Not much more has been revealed since we saw the car blasting through the snow in Europe, but we can still clearly see new design elements like the larger grille, slimmer headlamps and redesigned taillamps.

Our spy photographers worked up a composite image of this Cruze prototype alongside the current model, and here, we can clearly see some big visual changes are in store for the new model. The 2015 Cruze's hood slopes downward more dramatically, the windshield is more heavily raked, and the roofline looks more fluid overall.

Very cool. Looking forward to seeing both of these cars. Wonder if they will change any of the performance aspects of the ATS coupe variant versus the sedan. Would this version be even lighter or basically the same weight?

As for the Cruze. I still feel even the current version is a fresh looking car...especially with the RS package and the larger wheels I feel it looks great. Hopefully the refresh will look just as good.

It looks like GM is trying to copy the Civic. The current one looks much better.

Modern coupes tend to be approximately the same weight as their sedan brethren. This is largely due to safety concerns, particularly side impact. I'd guess +/- 50 lbs.

I don't follow. Then again, I've never been able to judge a car based on a camo'd spy shot.

Woot! An ATS Coupe is what that car was built for! Sorry but the sedan's back seat just isn't useable with a driver/front passenger over 5'5'!
And the Cruze gets angrier looking, good. That car needed some attitude!

Nice, I do hope that under the camo The ATS coupe has a more conventional profile in the rear than the current CTS coupe.
