2011 Mustangs new v6

looks like the competition is stiffening up a little bit for the camaro. looks like the 2011 v6 mustang is getting a new engine with at-least 270+ hp.

A must for Ford. I am very interested to see what the new 5.0 is gonna put out in the Mustang GT, and if they will go to a six speed.

Could be serious competetion for the SS.

Yeah - I'm not worried about it. That mustang needs a lot more than a new engine to make it worth anything. (And yes, I *have* driven one)

Hah! It's about time they put a decent motor in those mustangs. I drove a 2008 v6 mustang for a month or so (rental while my car was in the shop) and that thing was pretty awful. Very clumsy, heavy and had no power, at least compared Nikki's 2010 v6 Camaro.

Great to see that Ford is making improvements. Surely brought on by their competition from the Camaro. Even still, it's a little late.

I'd hate to be one of the people who bought the 2010 mustang with the new body, only to find out they have a new, more powerful engine for probably about the same price only one year later!

Chevy did that with the mustang when they were developing the Camaro. Its only fair. But ford wont put in as much as chevy did for our v6.

With the current Mustang V8's, Ford's doing a good job of wringing performance out of lower HP. Maybe they can pull off a similar trick with their new V6's and actually build something they'd let magazines pit head-to-head with an LS or LT (can't remember which magazine it was that said they contacted Dodge and Ford to get V6 Mustangs and Challengers to compare against an LT, and both of them declined).

:party0038: Yay!!! It's about time, seems like you've waited forever! Congrats and post pics when you decide to take a break from cruising - and hopefully smoking a few V6 Mustangs. We'll still be able to leave those 2011 'stangs in the dust.

What we currently know about the 2011 3.7L for the Mustang is that it will be a generation up on the model under the hood of the MKS, probably an easy 'upgrade' to throw in since so many changes need to be made for north-south fitment, and that it makes at least a little more power than that mill does. FWIW the MKS produces 275hp. As for direct injection, no naturally aspirated will utilize direct injection in the near future.

good job ford, its about time you update your engines in mustangs, what i find interesting is how much horsepower is going to have, is ford going to add DI to match the camaro v6 numbers ? or leave it around 270-290 hp ?

"The engine will likely have slighty different horsepower and torque ratings in the Mustang. Changes had to be made to the front wheel drive version of the engine for longitudinal placement. These revisions include a new intake manifold, exhaust manifolds and accessory drive system to name a few. A more free-flowing air intake system geared for performance may also bolster final horsepower."

Now all they need to do is copy the styling, the IRS, and the engine!

This competition will be a good one. The 2011 Mustang will be faster than the Camaro in the V6 category simply because the Mustang weighs a lot less. It will be interesting to see if the new 5.0 V8 will be able to beat the Camaro's time.. My guess is it will also for the same reasons.. However the camaro will still look a lot nicer on the road stock for stock..
