New DD: 2013 Malibu

Just got rid of my old cavalier for a new Malibu LS. Went in for a Cruze but left with the Malibu for the better price and options. I may not be a great judge to compare this car vs others in its class but it feels very spacious inside. Interior fit and finish is excellent. As far as the exterior i love the front end, though im not sure how i feel about the raked look it has. I am getting great highway gas mileage. Anyone else get a new Malibu?

Considering the Malibu is getting an emergency redesign because of the poor reviews and customer complaints....... THAT'S why you got such a good deal. You may want to sit in your back seat and you'll see what I mean.

I love the front end but everything else needs redone.

I kid you not when I say that Ford dealership by me has 4 2013 used Malibu that obviously gotten traded in because of dissatisfaction.

I had the '13 Malibu in DC for a couple days (National rental) and really liked it. Sat in the back seat to see what all the fuss was about. I'm 6'0", 165lb and had no problem with room. I don't understand what all the fuss is about. Really nice ride though, congrats OP!

It's not that it's small. I'm sure it serves its purpose. The problem is when you compare the cubic inches to the competition, it's tiny in comparison. I think motor trend said it best when they said "this car is barely midnight size, more like upper end of compact"

Dabears, I kind of have to disagree. The car is VERY spacious up front and a little tight in the legroom in the back. If this car was any bigger I wouldn't want it. With that said, it's only my wife and I with no plans of children. In the past ten years we've used the back seats of our cars maybe a half dozen times so the back seat means nothing to me anyway. I'm die hard GM forever too though as it raised my entire family in Lansing. The car looks great from the front and inside. More then enough for me!! Wishing I would have gotten the touchscreen though...

Emergency redesign on the way...they are pushing out the old ones. Fusion looks way better and is killing the Malibu right now.

Hey man I agree. I'm very happy that it's perfect for you. I love the front end and interior design. But facts are facts in comparison to competition.

But trust me I'm glad the car works for YOU. It's just that you are in the minority.

The Fusion (left column) has been outselling the Malibu (right column) by 20-30k units each year

2005 16,983, 203,503
2006 142,502, 163,853
2007 149,552, 128,312
2008 147,569, 178,253
2009 180,671, 161,568
2010 219,219, 198,770
2011 248,067, 204,808
2012 241,263, 210,951

Sadly both domestics get left in the dust by the Camry and Accord which are usually in the 300,000+ range each year. There is just way to much competition in this segment. Besides Chevy and GM seem to be focusing on the sport segments the last few years with the Gen 5 Camaro, C7 Corvette and the sport sedan (SS) not to mention the Cadillac ATS and CTS. Then there's that whole Volt thing lol. I think the Cruze was a more important segment than the Malibu/Impalla. The latter sell well no matter what they look like (fleet, government, etc)

We just bought one a couple weeks ago and also think it's a great car. When in to look at Cruise and Malibu, after test drive it was Malibu hands down. It drove nice, very quite inside, plenty of room up front and ok in the back. Wife liked the look of Malibu better than any of the others in this class, plus we have GM card $. I read the reviews also, they complained about the front grill, taillights and back seat room. The redesign is suppose to be minor.

We are glad you love the new Malibu! What is your favorite feature on it?
