Need help with a friends Dodge 4x4

Here's the story:
He had the engine built and the builder said he needed a 2800 stall converter for optimum performance.
Now when he drives it he says It just doesn't run the same, no power.
Daily driver, Some mudding.

Heres whats in it.
97 Dodge Ram 4x4
408
24#injectors
218/224 528/536 114 cam
52mm T/B
4.10 gears
auto trans
2800 stall
35" tires

he believes it all started when they changed to the stall converter.

any suggestions are appreciated.

Actually that cam starts making power at 1500 RPM he has already lost 1300 RPMs. That is a common cam for strokers and the engine builder is an idiot. I also thought that cam only offered 112 degrees of seperation?

If that is a Competition Cams cam get on the phone with them I believe he has the wrong stall and another question did he change his fuel pump as well? Would help a little with the cam and injector install the 96/97 trucks did not have the juice to maintain demand in a hot setup.

I would go back to stock that is supposed to be the cam that runs the upper limits of the stock converter. What can it hurt to give it a run until he can sell the stall and get a beefier one built to handle the range of the cam. Like I suggested the cam manufacturer will offer the best advice on which RPM range he is shooting for - one thing you have to consider is the transfer case ratio and they have all that information from past installs.
