Guys

I would like to see a forum made for the SLP cars in the "Specific Models/Packages" section.

I asked this already about a month or two ago, even in fairness included the idea of all other types of special edition Camaro's. Response was pretty much negative. As that they aren't Chevy/GM cars, and that due to site sponsor stuff that it would be unfair for companies like SLP to get free publicity while site sponsors have to pay. Maybe not perfect to the words of the mods but fairly close. We are welcome to start up a thread for them in a forum like photo's, etc.

Sorry, thats not going to work. You can't start a thread claiming that the cars are special & unique, and we should recognize them as such, then go and try and justify it by saying that they're 'just modified Chevys'

The 'SLP cars' (as you called them in your OP) are essentially the same as the Lingenfelter cars, the Hennessey cars, the Saleen cars, the ... well you get the picture. If we do it for one, we should do it for all. But if we do it for all, non-sponsors would effectively be getting promotion space on the forum -thats a big no-no. So the only way to be fair to everyone is for Camaro5 to do nothing special for any of them.

Not to make waves Sir, but SLP is not the same as Henny, Lingenfelter, etc...SLP has been working with hand in hand with GM to produce special edition cars for quite a few decades now, and sold at dealerships with the standard warranty, you can't say that about those other brands. There are GM dealerships across the country that have accounts with SLP to build & sell the cars, and not just Camaros, but Truck's such as Escalades, Tahoes, Silverados, Yukons, Sierras, etc. So they're not just "modded" Camaro's, they're actually limited, numbered, highly sought after breed of their own. Did you know that SLP trademarked the ZL logo a long time ago, and let Chevy use it? That's how they can call their models ZL575, ZL600, ZL650,etc..you get the picture. So just giving a little clarification & would love to see an SLP section.

Here's a little history of SLP (Street Legal Performance):

SLP was founder in 1986, and their mission was to provide late model Camaro & Firebird owners with a complete selection of "Street Legal Performance" products that would improve performance, handling & fuel economy of their cars.

In 1988 SLP introduced the aftermarket industry's first "Emission Legal" performance package for the new Camaro/Firebird that led to a formal relationship with GM's Performance Parts Division, enabling performance enthusiasts to purchase SLP's products directly from any GM dealer throughout the country.

1991 represented the next milestone in SLP's 26 year history, when GM approved SLP's first speciality vehicle program, the 1992 Firebird based Firehawk. All of the Firehawks were built in the Toms River, NJ facility and delivered to Pontiac dealers throughout the country.

In 1995 Chevrolet approved SLP's next speciality program, based off the Camaro Z28. In addition to approving their first Chevy program, they also allowed SLP to use on of the most hallowed names in their history, the Camaro SS. In 1996 SLP introduced it's first Camaro SS to the automotive world and received rave reviews for it's stunning performance, handling and appearance.

Over the next 8 years SLP produced 55,000+ speciality vehicles for GM and all it's Chevy and Pontiac dealers. They included the Camaro SS and RS models, along with the Firebird-based Firehawk, WS-6 and Comp T/A models. In Auguest of 2002, GM ended production of the 4th Generation Camaro/Firebird, along with SLP's Camaro SS and Firehawk program.

From that point on, SLP expanded it's product line, producing and selling a very comprehensive product line of performance, handling and appearance mods for most late model Detroit-based Muscle Cars, and Full Sized trucks & SUV's. All this, while patiently awaiting the reintroduction of the next generation Camaro and Pontiac replacement for the Firebird.

When GM introduced the 5th generation Camaro, indicating no Firebird replacement was planned, it was obvious that the new Pontiac G8 GT was the only vehicle in Pontiac's production line worthy of the Firehawk nameplate. In early 2008, SLP began formulating it's plans for the next Firehawk.

In 2009, with the start of production for the 2010 Camaro, SLP introduced it's ZL(TM) Camaro Program. Available from any Chevrolet dealer in the United States & Canada, upgrades from 427HP through 575HP were made on a Limited Edition SLP package that carried a full 3yr/36,000 mile warranty.

For 2011, SLP upped the horsepower on it's ZL (TM) Camaro to 585 and added a 5yr/100K mile warranty. SLP also introduced it's 2011 750HP ZL1 at the Orange County Auto Show in the Chevrolet Exhibit. A very limited edition vehicle, the ZL1 was tested by MotorWeek TV and ran a 0-60 in 3.2 seconds.

So as you can see it's not like the aftermarket kits like Hennessy & Lingenfelter. Just thought I'd share the true history of SLP.

I'm aware of the history. But their cars are not like the SS's they did for the 4th gens. There is no formal relationship for building cars that I am aware of between them and General Motors for the 5th gen Camaro. Plus, those other shops also have their own warranties & they've been tested by various publications. So looking strictly at the 5th gen Camaro, I don't see SLP as being any different than the rest of the shops that build turn-key super Camaros. Sure, the details are slightly different with all of them, but the main points are more or less the same.
