Madden 13 SUCKS!

I never thought I'd say this about a Madden football game, but I absolutely HATE the new version.

Graphics are ok, some of the tackles are a little weird. Gameplay seems the same...no real improvement there. The interface is a little funky, but I suppose you can get used to it.

My main complaint about this game is that they took away the ability to create a franchise, and edit players. This has been in EVERY Madden game since the first versions on the Apple ][ and Commodore. Frankly, it's what made this game so great over the years.

Example of what I mean. I picked the Seahawks, and Tavaris Jackson is still starting because he's a 72, Flynn is a 71, Russell Wilson has a QB rating of about 62. Point is, that many of the ratings are ones I don't agree with. This was true of previous versions of Madden as well, except that I could edit them as I saw fit.

Instead, you get this RPG type feel where you gain xp for practicing and playing...then spend it on single point gains. The progression aspect of the game is now competly screwed up.

If this is the future of Madden, I expect people may have huge issues with were this franchise is going.

U don't like it cuz u can't make ur players better? Umm...what? Aren't there online updates for the rosters to make the stats accurate and current? Not just whatever you think is good for you?

So you can practice and train and gain exp to increase your players ratings? Seems legit to me.

But I never played madden. I'm more of a BF/CSPC gamer. Seems to me, based on what you said EA wants this to be more realistic....

It has to do with the flexibility the game used to have. You can't do fantasy drafts anymore, for example. You can't build the team you want to play. And, for example, I might want to increase Russell Wilsons stats (especially if he plays well in the regular season). I can't do that. I'm forced to play stats that are picked for me, and can't adjust them in any way. It's very hard to "level up" defensive players.

Yes, there are online updates...but you don't get those rosters automatically. You have to join a service to get those. They aren't automatic updates pushed out to the game to everyone.

Read the forums for Madden. There are a ton of people complaining about what was one of the best features of Madden.

I've been a huge supporter of Madden over the years. I have played it since Madden first came out on the Apple. These changes are MAJOR when you compare it to what Madden has been in the past.

I'm not sure I'll continue playing 12 get more details, but as an example you can gain 1000 xp for a full practice (which takes as long as a game). I believe if you win, you get the 1000, if you don't, you get partial xp. It costs 2000-5000xp to raise a single stat 1 point per player.

So, to get Russell Wilson from an overall 62 rating to a perhaps 72-75 overall rating might take 3-5 game years.

If I believe he should be rated a 78, with better stats for running and awareness, I can't. If I wanted Terrell Owens (who isn't even available anywhere), I can't add a custom player with his stats.

You can't simulate a full season quickly, and if you want your player to progress, then you have to devote twice as much time to do the practices because your characters won't progress if you don't.

It's simply unforgivable that after almost 30 years, the one feature they've had in the game in EVERY version of Madden is removed.

Franchise mode is now "Career Coach" it has a few more features but you can automate those to have the same feel as Franchise mode.

I never "adjusted" player's attributes so that doesn't bother me. To me it's more of a challenge and I like it. I can't just make some random guy 99 overall and rape with him, that's just stupid IMO.

This isn't about producing 99 players. It's about being able to modify your rosters to fit better with the players that are actually there.

I'm sure there are cases like this for every team. I use Russell Wilson as an example though. I'd like him to be my starting QB. I feel that the mid-60 rating he has is low, especially after what he did in pre-season. So, prior to creating my league, I would like to make him have a rating more around 75-80, and fit better with what I saw of him in preseason.

Basically, now we have to take EA's stats, which may not actually reflect their play on the field.

As with EVERY other version of Madden, you could do whatever you want. Some people made 99 characters, others used it to customize and add friends, etc.

That's gone now...and like I said...it was a major upside to the game over the years.

They could easily provide a "hardcore" mode for those that just want to live with the EA stats. They didn't, and believe me when I say a LOT of people are complaining about the lack of ability to customize teams like they used to.

can you at least change the depth chart? so that wilson can still start, and you will just have to try to get his stats better, throughout the season?

I've heard they changed the depth chart, and that sucks as well.

You cannot sub certain players in to other positions...meaning a LG can't fill in for a LT...or at least that's what I read on the forums.

Oh, and you're saying play the worst player on the team to make him get better...makes perfect sense to me.

Seriously, I cannot tell you how much I loathe this new Madden.

I can't totally disagree with this. I know what you mean, but I've gotten past some of the different gameplay changes they made.

I miss actually having MADDEN announce the games.
