Pissed off the wrong guy this am (ticket)

So I'm moving along in a 10 - 20 mph rolling traffic jam behind that person that feels they need 30-35 car lengths worth of following room (texting?, bad brakes?, power trip?, passenger in drivers seat?).

The left lane is blocked by a firetruck at the accident scene. The driver ahead of me is apparently a card-carrying member of the rubbernecker's club, because in addition to the ample stopping distance she had already accumulated, she felt the need to test the brakes and take us from around 20mph to barely moving. I had to feather the clutch to keep from catching up to her.

Then, we finally pass the accident scene. Rubberneckers abound, I look up and see the left lane is clear as far as the eye can see. In fact, so is the center lane (thanks to my overly cautious predecessor). So, I execute a lane change (with blinker I might add), and stretched my right leg (it was cramped from all the stop and go), pushing the tach to redline I pulled into second. I was light on the clutch, so no second gear rubber. I abruptly stopped my scretching exercise upon reaching the posted speed limit.

Feeling MUCH better after my 'scretch', I settle into my lane and bump the cruise control back on. A minute or so goes by when I catch a glimps of those familiar, unmistakeable, and colorful; red and blue flashing lights waaay back in the distance. I really didn't think much of it, I moved to the right lane (since traffic was light after the accident scene it was open as well) and I double-checked my speed to make sure I was not going to attract attention (too late).

Well you all knew where this was headed. Over to the shoulder I go. I probably should have mentioned (don't think it's in my sig), I have the Livernois, Header, Exhaust, CAI, and Tune package.

Short story long LoL, after 35 minutes I finally drove away with the following:

1. Driving motor vehicle in a manner intended to cause excessive noise $70.
2. Motor vehicle equipped with unlawfully modified exhaust system $70.
3. Motor vehicle equipped with unlawfully modified noise abatement device $70.
4. Failure to properly maintain and fasten vehicle registration plate in visible position (no license plate covers in Maryland) $60.
5. Maryland Safety Equipment Repair Order for 'exhaust system' - To be corrected in 14 days or else the MVA will suspend the vehicle registration.

All I can say is I must have scared the living crap out of the guy because he was EXTREMELY pissed, and he hadn't cooled off any 35 minutes later when he brought me the citations. I haven't been yelled at like that since I was 11 years old and got caught with the neighbor girl in the chicken shed out back (we weren't doing anything...honest).

Time to find an 'exhaust-friendly' inspector...

Peace,
SSN8R

I am sure the policeman would like them to tell me that but, it passed inspection once. I took delivery of it with the mods. I am pretty sure I will be able to get it to pass again. Time will tell.

No points...no moving violations.

Not sure what kind of response you were aiming at while posting this. You have modifications that seem to be illegal in your area, you got caught by excessively accelerating, and you think the cop was "scared" by your loud exhaust?

I'll never understand the need for people to complain about getting caught after modifying their vehicles beyond the legal limits in their area. Like getting tint that's too dark or tinting their entire windshields.

Dude, get off of your high horse...

First off, the car is NOT illegal...maybe out of warranty (anybody want to debate this one again)...but not illegal.

Second, pretty sure I told a story...I never said the policeman was wrong, nor did I cry about my situation. I was not complaining, I was sharing an anecdote. I'll leave it to other posters as to wether it was right or wrong, but you have clearly jumped to conclusions.

Lastly, the cop did not have any 'moving violations' to write or obviously he would have...but thanx for the 'excessive excelerating' charge. I'll be sure to add that to the list. What is YOUR process for litigation.

Hey, if you can't say anything nice...

Just sayin'

He thought your car was too fast and too loud? That sucks man. It sounds like he let his personal feelings about fast cars sway his judgment. He had just been cleaning up an accident scene so maybe it got to him a little bit.

Agree with your last response. Forums are precisely for sharing. Don't want to read a thread about a ticket, dont click it. The subject line told you what you were going to be reading so it's no Scooby Doo mystery.

That said I had a similar experience on the 5 with CHP except when I told him how the lady had been driving me nuts for 10 miles of shadowing the #1 lane speed, from the HOV lane (with no one literally for over 2miles ahead), the cop laughed, told me to have a nice day and let me go. I was on my highly modified sportbike, so tickets would have been easy to write. Gotta be careful venting with the accelerator on sport modified exhaust vehicles (bike or car).

I wrote off a speeding camera ticket like that, as the camera could not see how everyone was stuck behind a guy with an over loaded trailer who could not get moving. Took 3 lights for him to get going at which point I rocketed past as fast as I could before the thing started to drop parts on the road or broke down.

Yeah that sucks, just for hammering it down. I could see if you were driving like an ass, but for just mashing the throttle, c'mon... :(
