why?

Why is it that when a drug addict dies their is this huge commotion and everyone talks about it and how sad it is? But, when one of our soldiers over seas dies no one even talks about it. I just think its crazy how we can get stuck on fame and not even acknowledge our true HEROS. Someone singing on a stage or staring in the next big film isn't the hero. The men and women pouring the sand out of their boots thousands of miles from their families and friends, who die every day fighting for our country are the HEROS. They should get that kind of recognition.

Your first sentence needs to be corrected... When a FAMOUS drug addict dies, it's a huge commotion. Nearly 40,000 drug related deaths were recorded in 2009 (the most recent stats I could find) - more than motor vehicle accident deaths... http://abcnews.go.com/Health/Drugs/d...ry?id=14554903 - and you don't hear about most of them.

And I beg to differ on the recognition our soldiers get. I don't know about where you live, but my local paper has a big article every single time a soldier from Joint Base Lewis McChord (large base near me) dies. Soldiers are regarded as heroes in my neck of the woods, rightfully so...

I do understand where your concern is coming from, though - we shouldn't glorify the celebrity's drug abuse with huge televised memorials.

I agree. The news barely covers military related deaths like they should. My bf's twin bro is a very high ranking officer in the USMC and many Americans dont have a clue whats going on...it is sad but our nation likes to deflect attention from the important things.

As fas as Whitney. Shes a ghetto girl who died a ghetto way. She had a beautiful voice and an amazing talent that she threw away. She left her kids wo a mother. Good job. I thought crack was wack??

I also agree there is nothing to celebrate.

If you are a grown adult and you don't have a natural FEAR of the unknown, such as using drugs/or a drug you never tried before....

...and you are not concerned about whether you are going to wake up or not after taking the drugs/and combining it with drinking heavily,

why should you get to be treated like a star? You're suicidal. Things always seem more peaceful for everyone after these types disappear.
