Smile Great Battles Game.

This is a brand new game. The rules are simple and lenient. A poster names a battle (one that really took place, no fantasy stuff). The responding player then tells what he/she knows about it.

The information need not be perfect. It might include the time it was fought (years and months are close enough; for harder ones the general time period is satisfactory), and whom the fighting involved (names of sides and/or alliances are cool). Any and all details will add to the fun of this game.

If the player gets it right (remember, rightness here is lenient) then the player gets to select the next battle for the game. Cool? Let's do it.

Here, I`ll start: Battle of Gettysburg.

Civil War, 1863 fought around (and IN) the town of Gettysburg, PA. Took a tour of the battlefield there, a few of the buildings in town are still pockmarked with musket ball hits. This battle was also considered the turning point of the war, as Lee's push north was stopped by.... i forget the North's general's name on that one, but yeah.

You are correct! It's your turn to name the next battle.

Hmm, let's see. Is that the one launched by Hernán Cortez in his bid to defeat the Aztecs? I think so. It took place around 1519 or 1520, I believe. Correct me, if I'm way off.

New battle: Battle of The Bulge. (And no, kiddies, it has nothin' to do with obesity.)

Chapultepec is a name in Nahuatl, the language of the Aztecs who lived and still live in the area of México near the capital city. If it wasn't a battle involving post-Columbian invaders, then it must've been an internecine conflict amongst the Aztecs and their neighbors. Am I close enough to be "leniently" accurate? Or is this waaaay off?

This was a battle fought by the US Marines in the Mexican - American war to take Chapultepec Castle outside of Mexico City. According to Marines Corps lore, the blood stripe that NCO's wear on their dress blues was earned at this battle.

Okay, ya' got us good. I thought ya' meant centuries EARLIER, silly me. Still, leniency is its own reward, or sumpthin' like that.

Next battle: Battle of Guadalcanal
