Truck guys...what kind of bed liner?

Getting ready to move on a Sierra, and they're offering to throw in a Line-X spray in liner....

Any horror stories about spray in liners? Drop in liners? Dual liner?

Any and all insight is appreciated.

I have a drop-in Duraliner on our Sonoma. Not too bad.

Glad you're staying in the GM fold by the way.

I was tempted by the fruit of another, but in the end, I'm staying faithful!

Of course, this Sierra made it easy. I fell in love!

Spray-in liners have a rough, generally non-skid surface. Not so easy for "sliding" loads, but the load stays put, better. Easier to walk on if the bed is wet/snowy. Just make sure the drain holes are NOT plugged after application...

Drop-in liners are removable (and should be, occasionally) for cleaning. Susceptible to shifting loads punching holes and/or cracking/breaking, especially in COLD weather. Slippery when wet/frozen. Easy loading/unloading. Transferrable. In a single-wall box (particularly), better impact resistance to prevent "out-dings".

Thanks.

I've heard a few people with concerns that the spray in liners can actually lead to rusting. Any experience or thoughts on that?

If i go "drop in" it would be this http://www.dualliner.com

When I lived in Northern IN, I saw the after effects of drop-ins - rust. They scuff the paint, water accumulates and then you get rust. Haven't any issues with Rhinoliner on three trucks, but that has been in AZ.

Tantalizer43, the best thing you could do is have a quality sprayed in liner done....but just like getting a car/truck painted.....its all about the PREP WORK. I have a RHINO LINER sprayed by an Authorized installer......I LOVED IT.....and would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone. I have heard good things about LINE-X as well.

we've got about a dozen trucks, all have spray in bed liners.... I believe some are line-x, the rest are Rhino..... can't be beat. The truck out in my driveway now had a rhino sprayed in when it was new, and its got over 250K miles on it and its holding up great...... and it gets beat on with all kinds of stuff daily.

What are you planning to do with it? My Z71 was a grocery getter and vacationer for me. No need for a work liner per se, so I installed a BEDRUG. All 100% washable carpet liner. You can haul mulch or dirt etc on it and all washes off. After its washed it looks good as new. Just a thought for ya. Good luck

As mentioned after your post, drop-ins "work"...move around...and that scuffs things underneath. Which is why I originally mentioned lifting it out and cleaning underneath it, occasionally...salt 'n such, trapped over time, can do nasty things to the original (now bare) metal.

Also as mentioned, if "proper prep" is done, a spray-in should be near-impervious to the elements...but is NOT fully dent-resistant... Actually, NOTHING is "fully dent-resistant", if you really get careless...

We had Line-X sprayed in by the dealer when we bought our '04 Silverado HD. That thing has had 1 ton pallets of fertilizer dropped on it, generators tossed in the back, large aquatic pumps.. all sorts of strange stuff.

All we did to maintain it is just hose the bed out and wash the stink out once and a while.

Nothing but praise here for Line-X.

I run a rubber mat in both my trucks, easier to remove for cleaning, not slippery when wet, and not too expensive. No matter what you do, if you USE your truck bed, it will get scraped, scratched, and dented no matter how careful you are, TRUST ME!
