Ewww! All this moving...

is real detracting from the C5 experience. Lots of members want to hang out on the general forum and talk Camaro. I suspect lots of members are like me and rarely chase a thread to one of the sub forums...I just don't have the time. I also don't have the inclination to memorize the sub forums when posting. Why this obsession with a sub forum for every conceivable subject that renders the largest forum by far (the general forum) inappropriate for most of the posts that are made there (i.e., almost half of the new threads in the last couple of days have been moved to a sub forum).

What's wrong with a general forum that ya'll leave alone? If a thread there is of merit technically, then move it to the technical sub forum (into the archives...or oblivion as I sometimes call it). I just don't understand the problem...

If you don't like searching for the threads in different subforums, then this is a perfect time to use thread subscriptions. Then you can go to your homepage, and see all of your favorite threads in one spot. No searching subforums required.

Yea, it seems to be a really big deal to the mods. I just don't get it. Why chastise members who are hanging in the general forum with trojan threads and threats of warnings and such when there are sub forums for virtually any subject? Why can't C5 have a general forum where members can hang and talk Camaro without worrying about it? The many M6 vs. A6 threads should probably be in the transmissions forum and I suppose the steering wheel threads belong in a sub forum, but what belongs in the general forum? This is way too complicated to be the best member experience.

That's really not the same as a free flowing general forum. It limits my involvement to specific threads and inhibits my exposure to new threads that might interest me. I get the feeling that admins and mods are refusing to see this from a typical member's perspective.

Because people like to search forums for information, especially several years down the road. If a thread is in the proper place, its much easier to find.

The '5th Gen General' isn't supposed to be a dumping ground or a spot of convenience. It is there specifically for "topics not covered by other subforums". It says this right at the top of the forum.

As for the other areas being 'oblivion' ... I don't see it that way at all. Since there is less traffic in the sub sections, a thread will stay on the first page of the forum far longer. Which, oddly enough, means that people are more likely to spot it. In 5th gen general, it can be buried to the 2nd or 3rd page within a couple days of being made. Plus, the people that visit those areas regularly are usually much more knowledgeable than the average member in 5th gen general. Sure, you might not get 1,000 views ... but the ones you do get will be from people who can offer better advice. Whats more important, getting a lot of bad answers, or a few good ones?

I don't think many of the members are hanging out on the general forum to get anything specific. It's more of a chat experience.

I was a typical member for two years before I became a mod. I rarely used the forums at all, and just surfed the new posts tab. Exposing me to all of the website at one time. Reason being is that I was interested in all aspects of the camaro, so to chain myself to one forum wasn't something I was into. And I just about bet I'm not the only one that does this.

All you have to do is look at the number of people hanging on the General Forum as opposed to the other forums to know that most members are just wanting to talk Camaro without the heavy moderation. And that is certainly not "off topic".

I still do that.

if it is camaro related, and just generally about the camaro than it goes to the "general camaro" subforum. If it's a "A6 vs M6" thread than that goes to the transmission forums.

Let me run an analogy by you, OK? I'm doing your taxes. Instead of separating all of your receipts, invoices, bills, etc I put them in one GIANT box. Because hey, they're all tax related right? You'd be pretty pissed at me, and come tax season you would be up a certain creek without a paddle trying to find the right documents.

No offense but that's as clear as mud and you have several "M6 vs. A6" threads you need to move. I don't know why a general forum that mods just "let be" is so distasteful for you. You can always move threads to sub forums if they have technical merit for archiving.

Hi there, I'm new to this site and love it so far Do you know if there is any way to track the posts you make to see if people respond? Or do I just have to manually keep track of where I have been? Thanks guys

Think about it this way. You go into a brick and mortar store that sells everything camaro. Over here are the engine parts, over there you will find exterior mods, and over there you will find exhaust. Customers want to find the parts they need and get out.

Now try to imagine the store in the fashion that you want us to run it. Parts everywhere, people want to quickly find what they are looking for, but you have forced them to search through the entire store instead of one section. I personally would go nuts, walk out of the store and never return.

If I was to say what forum i would spend most of my time in, it would be the cosmetics discussion. I go in, and I find exactly what I'm looking for. I don't want to waste time in the General forums reading every thread trying to figure out which ones are cosmetics threads, and which ones are useless to me.

The general forums get the most traffic because all of the new threads are in it. If it was more organized the traffic will start to filter to the proper sections. I don't think many people just sit there and spend their day refreshing the general forum. I would bet that most people use the new posts button, and don't even notice what forum something is in.
