Ford Ranger gets regulated out of production!

DODGE DAKOTA AND FORD RANGER: Ford's ancient but successful compact pickup (despite its decades-old frame, it outsold the Taurus in September) perishes because it cannot meet coming government standards without expensive updates. The second generation of the slightly larger Dodge truck simply never caught on in the market.

WOW. I hate emissions standards/all government restriction on auto makers.

Yes ... our Ford Ranger is dead. But the truck has just been redesigned for the global market.

So the excuse that it would have cost a lot of money to get a new Ranger for North America that meets the new standards is a total load of BS. Ford was going to be spending that money on it no matter what. Designing it to meet slightly different specs costs practically nothing. They simply decided not to sell it here, mainly because it would steal too many sales from the F-150.

I can't believe it lasted this long. The body has basically been the same since 1993 and the general chassis design has been the same since 1983.

What exactly are you referring to? GM does NOT own Ford.

He's referring to the next-generation Colorado.

And looks are subjective.

Ford said that the new Ranger is too close in size and price to the F-150 to warrent the cost to bring it to North America. They reported that most buyers of Rangers are looking at the lowest cost new vehicle, not specifically a truck, and that they want those people into a Fiesta or a Connect if they need the hauling capacity. Doesn't matter to me either way, I don't care for trucks.

I wish we wouldnt have all these emission standard or at least less restrictive ones. I would love to have a Toyota Hilux.

I never really liked those trucks anyway. Especially with the F-150 in the lineup. Oh well, more sales for the F-150.

I've got a 2003 with 180k on the clock and it has been the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. One of these days I'll have to give it up and move on....kinda disappointed I won’t be able to replace it with another.

They still sold them. Just a few minor, and I mean minor, refreshes along the way. That truck was paid for years ago and ford has refused to do the redesigns to keep it alive.

You can snap up a new 2011 still for 17,000 here. XLT, ext cab 4x4, but stick. Autos are 19000.

It's sad we are losing this. They are built in St paul and a lot of minnesotans are losing their jobs because the plant is closing.
