Does it even matter?

Whether it's a 4 cyl. or a v6 or a v8? A foreign or a domestic?

Who cares if you drive or even prefer a v6? If it's what you like, then that's fine. Let it be that. It doesn't make you any less of a man. There are quite a few respectable v6's out there, for example...look at Porsche. Look at Audi. Look at BMW. All great companies that have used and use v6's.

So you like v8's? Awesome. They are great sounding engines with the capability to produce great amounts of power, but it doesn't automatically make it a "better engine".

The same goes for foreign/domestic cars. There are plenty of foreign cars that are great cars. You may not like their styling, but it doesn't take away from what the car is. So why is there so much hate? What makes a car like the new STI sedan rice, when it has a wing, and a car that has a v8 like the camaro, not rice, when it has lambo doors?

/End of rant

The BMWs use straight 6s. The Porsches and STI you mention use flat 6s. Thought I would just point out that those aren't exactly V6s.

+1

and quite a few audi's and BMW's are turbocharged V6s. So again, not really the same thing. That and when it comes to engine power (talking N/A here) bigger (ie more CI) = better

No sti has or ever will use a 6 cylinder of any configuration.

It matters to me. It's called personal preference...and we all have our reasons.

For me...a 4cyl < V6 < V8. V10s+...meh, not all that interested...part of that is how I was brought up...other reasons include observing this amazing automotive Industry for some time now, and forming my own preferences.

That said...I don't really care what engine size is in the car, so long as it serves its purpose. For example, I LOVE my Cobalt...it has a 4 cyl. I love it as a peppy, yet efficient daily-driver, and have no desire to see any larger of an engine inside.

It's no secret that I dislike any and all foreign manufacturers...and that is, in a nutshell, all because they aren't on a tight enough leash in this country, imo. But that's a political/economic discussion for another day.

You may remember I gave the genesis coupe a pretty cold shoulder in this section. That's because I spend my energies rooting for the home teams: GM, Ford, and part of Chrysler...and that doesn't leave me a lot of time to waste on the foreign brands.

There is a line in the sand, though...I can have my opinions, and still be cordial...I will not blast you for driving a foreign vehicle ("you" used in a general sense, here). I may playfully jab you in the ribs, but I won't make a show of it. I also recognize there are some competitive foreign vehicles. But recognizing it doesn't mean I have to like them.

If that's not a "Ricer Rant" then what is it ? The key word here is preference.

It is good to see respect for all vehicles. Here, we have a community of mostly V8-loving domestic muscle car enthusiasts. This is a small niche of a world of car enthusiasts. We should respect them all for their preferences.

All of that being said, our Camaros are better.

Different engine configurations work for different cars. Small engines and large engines each serve their own specific purposes.

American muscle cars and V8s just go together. It's part of muscle car DNA. Vipers and a gigantic V-10 go together. It's part of Viper DNA. BMW's and I-6s just go together.

Small, 4-cylinder engines even have their place, but in smaller sports cars, where the magic is in the lightweight, handling, and balance, not in the power.

You wouldn't put a heavy, large displacement engine in a Miata or Lotus and take it to a road course, just like you wouldn't put a 4-cylinder into a Camaro and take it to the strip. Those respective combos wouldn't be compatible with the car's respective purpose. A 4-cylinder in a Camaro would go over.....about as well as a 4-cylinder in an Explorer.

Please keep a close eye on this thread. . . a_username and myself might not be able to restrain ourselves if the typical economic discussion starts here again He'll know what I mean. Just so I'm clear, I'm not taking a jab at you in any way.

errrrrrrr, Chrysler is owned by Fiat and is an Italian company. So are they like Toyota and Honda that are owned elsewhere but built here?

But I do understand your point.

I thought they were only majority-owned...like 80% or something? That's why I said "part of Chrysler".

If they are wholly-owned...I'm going to stop wasting my time on them, too.
