Severl people were victims of identity theft due to this. They've been suspected of doing other stuff like this. It's not just "let's shut it down", it's let's shut it down and ruin people's lives while we have our hands on sensitive information.

That's exactly the problem, we don't know exactly what they are and aren't doing. Yes, people had their identity stolen after the playstation network went down. Are you going to tell me it WASN'T them?
What exactly is there purpose? Facebook uses our infmoration in the same way that onstar uses it. It's used to know what people of certain demographics are interested. That is all the "information" used. I don't see anything wrong with it. People have to make money one way or another.

No, i'm not saying it wasn't them. Just saying they had political reasons for taking down the PS network. Not just to steal peoples information.
It's also been known that Anonymous has taken down child porn sites and white supremacy sites...
