how can they say that the car in the video on Autoblog is the prototype. prototypes look somewhat like the vehicle they're developing correct? still crazy design though. not sure if i like it yet. the powertrain is insane as well. anyone know what the engine is based off of? and i was about to flip at the title too haha.

A prototype doesn't have to look anything like the car its testing for. Look at this Volt prototype for example:

It looks like an older Malibu ... because it is, on the outside. But it does have a Voltec drivetrain, which is the thing that they're testing with the car. The bodywork is just a shell for the mechanical bits.

Prototype is a poor choice of words, it is really a drive train test mule. Often times there is an engineering team working on the drive train while another team is still developing the chassis and body. The team working on the drive train shoves it in what they have which is often the model that is being replaced. For example, here is a picture of a couple C7 Corvette drive train test mules. They are obviously C6s with non-C6 gear underneath.

well thank you for clearing that up. i feel stupid for not thinking of it that way. anyways, really the only part i dont like is the roof/windshield area. makes it look like a bug
