Did I Underprice Myself too badly?
This blows. I just put my 1998 Gen 4 Victory Red V6 Camaro Convertible on the road for the summer until my car is built and the guy that waterproofed my house might want to buy it from me before I actually put it on sale. The car's left directional doesn't snap back, has minor leak problems in moderate to heavy rain, might need new tires and a tune-up. I blurted out $2000.00. He called me back after he spoke with his wife and they want to come by Saturday. I'm a man of my word, but I think I seriously underpriced the car. It was garage kept for almost 4 years. Sucks, if the deal goes through, I'm going to miss my baby. Just can't keep the vert on my property anymore because I need my garage for my new 2SS. What do you guys think about the deal?

wow. I'm thinking you shorted yourself too. but you didn't mention the millage. There are a couple in Auto Trader for $3,500 if they can get that price.
Sounds like you might have a buyer for 2k. how much work/time are you willing to put forth for maybe another $1000? That's your call. |

Sorry, it has about 85K on it (84959). Yeah, I'm pretty sure I did too. Wanted to use it this summer while I wanted for my new Camaro. I have a feeling the car won't pass inspection, and if he doesn't buy the car, if I'm going to keep driving it, I'm going to have to fix it so it does. Probably deficient in the emissions area. Definitely needs a tune badly though. Problem is that I don't want to come off as a dick and give him some excuse about why I've changed my mind all of a sudden. Plus given this economy, who knows if I'd ever get more for it. I really want to move this car with the least amount of time and effort in advertising, but I also don't want to just give it away.
Gotta say, your fetish with boots intrigues me. Really nice collection of Camaros too! Do you work for GM? Looks like you were maybe one of the Test fleet drivers.

Exactly how bad is the leak and what kind of tune up? Depending on these, you probably could get $5-$6k for it. '98 - '00 verts around here normally for $7-$8k depending on condition.

Actually, the boot thing has taken on a life of its own and the collection is more for the viewing pleasure of others here. And I don't work for GM ~ I'm a Camaro stalker. ![]() I went to the low side not knowing all the details but if it's really worth 5k then he should just tell the guy he's too attached and back out. Unless he made promises... did you promise DkknightX? |

Oh ya! You short changed yourself for sure! Looks like a 4k+ car to me. Just make an excuse and say your bank won't hand over the Title unless you get 4K for it.

These replies are all over the map.
Visit www.kbb.com and www.nada.com and enter your cars information, go by the PRIVATE SALE price recommendation and factor in the repairs it needs, etc. I typed the infomation I had available and around here that car according to www.kbb.com shows: Excellent: $5,670 Good: $5,195 Fair: $4,645 Type in your info, in your area it may be worth more or less considering. If that car was in my area, I wouldn't sell it for less than $4.5-5K based on what you stated above ![]() Poor:

Well, I probably made myself look like an ass, but I did call him and leave a voicemail tonight, apologizing for giving him the price of 2K. I seriously think it was underpriced too and everybody, thank you so much for all of your advice! If he doesn't want the car, well, that gives me more time to drive it and get some good offers. Next time I need to keep my mouth shut before I start blurting out prices. Thanks again all!
![]() The leaking of the car did kind of irk me. My wife and I took a road trip to Boston about 4 years ago in it and it rained nonstop for like 4 days. I had a fair amount of water accumulation; maybe an 1/4 inch or so. But I'd be crazy to drive this thing in the rain anyway. Seems that the Sony Xplod radio I installed in it with detatchable face was connected to the convertible hydraulic circuit. Whenever I would hit a bad bump, the radio would go out and then the hyraulics would stop working. A quick tap to the dashboard got everything working again. The radio cables just have to be connected more solidly. No biggie. The top is fine, in perfect condition. I even replaced the rear glass that was stitched to the ragtop because the original was falling off. The work was done professionally of course. |
